Obituary of David Franklin Woodcook

No visitation David Franklin Woodcook David Franklin Woodcook was born in Olympia on December 15, 1945 to Roy Franklin and Virginia Rose (Middleton) Woodcook. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 21, 2006. David was raised in the Lacey area and enjoyed outdoor activities with his family while growing up. He attended Lacey Grade School and North Thurston High School where his pranks and practical jokes were legendary enough to be told by students to each other long after he graduated. Following high school, David attended Olympia Technical Community College before accepting a position with the State of Washington where he eventual became a claims adjudicator with the Department of Labor and Industries. He retired from state service in 1998. David married Cheryll Kathleen Resor in 1967 and they were blessed with two children, Jennifer in 1969 and Timothy in 1970. The couple later divorced and Timothy was adopted but David stayed in close contact with his daughter as she grew and eventually he took on full time parenting when she came to live with him in 1982. David married Janis Anne Jacobson in 1987 and the new blended family included Janis’ daughter Lexi and son Kendall from her previous marriage. The children were all teenagers so David and Janis soon had an empty nest and decided to try a Caribbean cruise to fill the void. They enjoyed it so much they took 13 more cruises over the years visiting all parts of the Caribbean as well as Mexico, Jerusalem, Egypt and other exotic locations. David and Janis also filled their home and their hearts with poodles, many of whom they rescued. There were times when the poodles outnumbered the people but it was never dull. David and Janis rededicated their lives to Christ and were baptized together on Sunday September 26, 2004 at Capital Christian Center in Olympia. They soon became involved in the Celebrate Recovery Ministry at both Capital Christian Center and also Mountain View Nazarene. In addition to being a leader with Celebrate Recovery, David enjoyed doing in depth Bible studies and had many versions of the Bible spread out in his study room. Family and friends knew that the best gift for David was a bookstore gift certificate so he could buy another Bible or study guide. His deep love for Christ and his desire to do God’s work will leave a lasting legacy for all his family and friends. David is survived by his wife Janis, his daughters Jennifer (Jenna) Woodcook and Lexi Roen and his son Timothy Woodcook. He is also survived by his siblings Judith Ikerd, James Woodcook, Keith Woodcook and Kathleen Hanna in addition to numerous nieces and nephews and an immeasurable number of friends. A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held at Capital Christian Center on Saturday October 7, 2006 at 4:00 pm. Capital Christian Center is located at 819 Olympia Avenue NE in Olympia. Janis asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made through the Capital Christian Center to David’s memorial fund.
