Jim Wahlstrom

Obituary of Jim E. Wahlstrom

James (Jim) Edward Wahlstrom, Ph.D. “Home is the sailor, home from the sea...” Jim Wahlstrom, born to Nelson “Wallie” and Viva Wahlstrom in Seattle on April 5, 1927, died on May 19, 2010 after having valiantly battled a number of health problems for several years. Jim, a Korean War veteran, received his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University and his master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Washington. He served on the staffs of Yelm, Evergreen, Federal Way, and Shoreline school districts before his retirement. He also served at Mental Health North in Shoreline and on the Environmental Quality Control Board in Lake Forest Park. In 1984 he married Dorothy (nee McClaire) and enjoyed many years of sailing (especially loving the San Juans), and world traveling in her company. Jim was also an avid gardener who took great pride in his corn crop, among his other prolific vegetables. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dick, and his sister, Joann, he is survived not only by his wife, but his sister-in law, Carol Wahlstrom, brother-in-law, Bob Goertz, and several nieces and nephews. Although, at Jim’s request, no services will be held, his friends are invited to attend a memorial celebration at the Chambers House Restaurant in Panorama, 1751 Circle Lane S.E., Lacey, on June 6 at 2:00 p.m. The family suggests that any donations be made either to Alzheimer’s research or to the Panorama Benevolent Fund, 1751 Circle Lane S.E., Lacey WA 98503.
