Obituary of James E. Varner

none James E. Varner, 49, a life long resident of the Olympia area, died February 1, 2006. He was born on March 4, 1956 in Yakima to Roy and Betty Jo (Widner) Varner. He graduated from Tumwater High School in 1974. From 1974 to 1978 he served in the Unites States Marine Corps. On June 13, 1981 James married the former Kendra L. Smith who survives. He was a former Washington State Patrolman from July 1979 to 1994 and was currently with the Washington State Labor and Industry beginning in 2004. Family was always first! James was known for his sense of humor and smile. He always was ready to lend a hand and never knew a stranger. James liked cars, especially vintage cars and driving. He also enjoyed maintaining and pampering his yard. He was a member of Harmony Lodge #18 of Olympia. Including his wife, Kendra, James is survived by his sons, Jason Roy Varner, of Bigfork, Montana and Kenneth Ray Varner, of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; his daughter, Janelle L. Varner, of Olympia; three brothers, John Varner, of Olympia, Mike Varner, of Lacey, and Roger Varner, of Kent; also five grandchildren, Tori Lane, Jochelle Varner, Samantha Varner, Austin Varner, and Isabella Varner. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1925 Boulevard Rd. SE, Olympia.
