I was a friend of David from Montgomery Jr.High. I want to give my condolences to his family. I went in the Marines in 1973 before we graduated. I was sent to Jacksonville North Carolina for training. One weekend in October or Nov. 73 I went on a bus up to a town called Fayettville for a get away from our base. I was walking down the street taking in the sites. All of a sudden I hear somebody call out my name. My whole name and I was shocked! It was David Stockert. He stopped and we went into a bar had a beer or two. I can't even remember why he was there? I thought that he was visiting his older brother Bobby or Jimmy? Didn't think he would have join the Army? But then twenty some years later, I saw him when I was working at the V.A Medical Center. Here in San Diego. He had been there for some kind of treatment and I worked there. I walked out with him that day. The last time I ever saw him. I will never forget him, because he was a real person and a true friend. God bless you David and thank you for your friendship. Doug Dean

I knew David when we attended Montgomery Junior High, in San Diego. He was a nut - - but so funny, and a great friend ! He was a terrific artist, and one of the funniest guys I've ever known. I don't think I've said the name "David Stockert" for over 35-years - yet, when I saw his obit in the San Diego Union, it's like everything came back to me about him and his friendship. He also had one of the best autographs I've ever seen - - I used to try and mimic it. I recall he had a brother named "Bimbo", no doubt a nickname. I remember David and I LOVED the album, "Cheap Thrills", by Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company !! He would often mimic Janis singing "Piece of My Heart" as a gag and a prank in our art class, and the entire class would crack up !! Truly one of the most talented and entertaining guys I've ever known. May you be with the Lord, Jesus Christ, Sir David of Stockert...(from an old friend who never forgot you.)

I remember when David's little baby was born and he sneaked out of my class to hold him. I am sad to hear of David's passing, and my thoughts are with your family. He was dear and gentle man.
