Obituary of Sylvan O. Sonne

Sylvan O. Sonne Sylvan passed away January 7, 2010. He was born September 14, 1921 in Woonsocket, South Dakota. He enjoyed his boyhood years in South Dakota. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Corp of Engineers. Sylvan attained the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to discharge in December 1945. In December 1945, he married his school sweetheart Leota Van Laecken. They made their home in Olympia since 1945, living first on the eastside and for the last 32 years on Long Lake. Sylvan worked as an auditor for Washington State Labor and Industries retiring in 1982. Sylvan was an active member of Elks Lodge 186 and American Legion Post 3. He was the loving husband of Leota, father of Sylvia Sonne Roberts (Bill), grandfather of Dr. Deanne Roberts, brother of Ila Thunberg, and uncle to Sheila Terry (George), Sandie Phillips (Ray), Gene Sonne (Melissa), Carol Walker (Dick), Connie Gilchrist, Joanne Whitney (Dan), Gwen and Brad Van Laecken. He was fiercely loyal and proud of his family. We love you and will miss you. Memorial service will be Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 11:30am at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1515 Harrison Avenue, Olympia. Family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
