It was a blow to me to learn that Mark had passed away. He and I were very close for a period of time in high school. We had a few really amazing adventures and they wouldn't have been the same without Mark in the mix.
Though we never saw each other after I joined the Marines I would often amuse friends with the stories Mark and I shared. They were pretty good ones, too. Always pushing the limits but never to be mean, always for the sheer adventure and the love of bending the rules.
It sounds like he had a great life filled with love and children and a spirit of service that is a wonderful thing.
My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mark. I know he'll be missed.

My wonderful sister Eileen loved her husband very much. Even if I never really had the opportunity to know him I saw his love and character in the faces of his family that Sunday of his death. His son DJ, Brian, Nichol and Shawna showed me who this great man really was deep inside. Mark, may God grand you peace and use the love and gifts you left behind in the hearts of your family.

Eileen, Fran, and all the family: I am so saddened by Mark's death. I saw him just recently, and he was full of hope for a pain free life. I am sorry that he didn't have the opportunity to experience that.
I've known Mark since he was very small. I occasionally babysat him and Tim and Carrie when his mom and dad lived in Bethany, West Virginia, and I was a student at the college where his dad, Richard, taught. And then when I moved to Olympia to work for his dad, I became reacquainted with Mark and the other kids. I have a sister who is Mark's age, and they went to high school together for a year, so I saw him through his awkward teenage years as well.
But most of my memories of Mark will be of him as one of the finest men I've ever known. Mark was generous, caring, smart, and had a wicked sense of humor. He and my former husband loved to talk politics, chess, and Star Trek stuff. I loved to talk with him about politics (he was always a great campaigner for me), and about his love of his family. He was so proud of his family - all the children and grandchildren, and especially you Eileen. He was happy with you all around him.
I will always see him through his lovely blue eyes, and that little look he could give you that said, "are you serious?" I will be with you in spirit tomorrow, and am sorry I could not be there with you.

It was a real pleasure to spend time with your family on Monday. I learned so much about Mark I never knew.
My heart goes out for each of you and I pray for peace--an ability to look back with joy over the memories, to look forward with hope, and to live in the moment with the ones you love. ~

Our hearts a sadend. The lose of our dad our friend. There is a great deal of things that most people did not know about him. I would say that my dad had more strength and courage than any one I have ever known. He would carrie the wait of the world on his shoulders for his family. His since of humor to know him was to love him. I my self do not know how to go on with out him. One day at a time. He will always be remembered love and charished with in our hearts and never forgotten. We will band together to keep each other safe and in time we will get through this. That is what dad would want. Love always Loopy
