Obituary of Charles Schilter

Charles G. Schilter Charlie’s 10-year battle with cancer and the effects of a stroke ended peacefully on September 23, 2010. He was born in Olympia on August 19, 1938 to Joseph and Anna Schilter. He was raised on family farms in Nisqually and South Bay and took over the South Bay farm in 1966, raising dairy and beef cattle until his stroke in 2000. He attended St. Michael Catholic School and has been an active member of the church for many years. He married Frances Ott of Manteca, CA, in 1964 and raised four children on the family farm. Charlie was proud of his Swiss heritage and was a member of the Swiss Sportsmen’s Club of Tacoma and the Swiss Men’s Society. Charlie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved working on the farm with his family by his side. He was a friend to many and will be dearly missed. Charlie is survived by his wife, Frances; son, Carl Schilter; daughters, Eileen (Jeff) Hugdahl, Shirley (Eric) Holdener, and Janet (Dennis) Shimabukuro. He had six dearly loved grandchildren, Maria, Kaylee, Annalee, Kyle, Joel, and Aleah. Special thanks to Mercedes Carbonel, Charlie’s caregiver for the past two years. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 at noon.
