Obituary of Jennings B. Moss

Jennings B. “JB” Moss Jennings B. Moss, 92, a resident of Olympics West Retirement Community in Tumwater, died Friday, September 4, 2009 at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. JB was born February 22, 1917 in Chestnut, Louisiana to the Reverend Franklin Pierson and Louella (Boyd) Moss. He attended schools in Louisiana. Other places of residence included Shreveport Louisiana, Gainesville, Georgia, Missoula, Montana and Salida, Colorado. On September 6, 1944, JB married the former Margaret I. Stephens who preceded him in death in 2007. Jennings was a very patriotic man. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Air Force in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. During WWII he received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. After serving in the armed forces for over eleven years, JB owned and operated his own saw mill in Georgia. At Ft. Missoula he worked as a supply clerk. When Ft. Missoula closed down, the family moved to Colorado. He later went to work for the Olympia School District as a bus driver and eventually became the transportation supervisor. His hobbies and interests included gemology, baseball and coin collecting. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Louisiana and a Lifetime Member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7089 in Tumwater. Survivors include his son Steve of Olympia and daughter Anne (John) of Tumwater. In addition to his parents and wife, preceding him in death include a son, Robert S. Moss; brothers, John C., Cortez, and Frank, Jr.; also sisters, Beatrice, Thelma and Mary Lou. Memorial donations in the name of Jennings B. Moss may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Washington Chapter, 192 Nickerson St., Suite 100, Seattle, WA 98109.
