Keith's dedication and caring for the people in our community remains an inspiration to me. When I expressed interest in the Jeep Patrol in 1995 Keith had faith in me. That faith continues to provide a focus for me.
Thank you Captain McDonald, and thanks to your family for sharing you in all your community endeavors.

We met Keith when we joined the Thurston County Sheriff's jeep
Patrol search and rescue, Keith was the Captain. I beleive he served as Captain 17 years. We looked up to him as Captain as he would never put any of the members in harms way,As well as putting together the best Search and rescue team there is, second to none.
We became friends and had many enjoyable fun times together. We enjoyed camping with Keith as well as a few trips, parades, searches, patrolling Capital Forest Keith joined us in many campouts with our children and Grandchildren and a whole lot of back porch time.Where he would share with us his feelings and love for his family. His love for his Dad,The appreciation and love he had for his wife, Judy. The care she gave him. His love for both his sons, And the love and joy he was receiving now being Papa.
Keith always asked about and showed care and concern for others even as he was dealing with his own prolbems.
Words can not express the hugh part Keith had in our lives. The empty part he left behind. Our confort is knowing that Keith is now at peace and in a much better place. We will miss you.

Keith and I met when we both joined Fire District 6 in 1986. It was always a good feeling when Keith was around. I can honestly say that every second I spent with Keith was an honor. I visited Keith and Joy a couple of times when they were in Arizona. He was as thrilled as I was to see and spend time with someone from home. Keith made me feel like I was an important person in his life and he sure was one in mine. He made everyone feel that way.

I have know Keith in two different arenas. I first met Keith when him and my brother were friends in schools (I was the younger sister and sometimes a pain in the butt). I hung around them as much as possible because their group had some of the coolest cars in town.
I then became reacquanited with Keith when I went to work for Medic One and he was in fire service. It was great getting to know him again in setting that he cared so much for - serving the public! He was a great assest to the public safety of this county.
The last time I talked to Keith was in August 2007 when him and brother went to their 50th class reunion. Keith was grateful that he was well enough to attend.
Keith, I want to thank you for your friendship and your service to citizens of Thurston County. You will be missed.

Keith was there to help me learn about fire, EMS and most of all about showing the people we serve that we really care about them. I will never forget his encouragement, warmth and humor. I met Keith when I joined FD6 in 1995 and he was always asking if there was anything I need help with. Keith had a way of making everything and anything a learning experience, and I did learn so much from him both in the fire service and about life itself......he will be greatly missed.

Keith was a cool guy, he always made me feel like I was important, I loved the way he talked he was always calming and excited to hear about what I had to say or what any one had to tell him. Getting to know Keith as a fire fighter/EMT, and commissioner was a great experience for me, I later found out we were related by marriage and thought the was a very cool thing. I will miss Keith and his friendship. What a wonderful guy he was.

Always kind words, on task, down to earth, ready to serve, following through, ready to partner but pulling more than his weight, seeking and analyzing others opinions, word as good as gold, that was Keith to me. He helped Medic One not only by responding but also with his thoughtfulness on EMS system issues. I know he enjoyed the Arizona sun but always looked forward to visiting home. I will miss him.

When I first joined the department in 1998 Keith was one of the first people I met. He was great to the newbies helping us learn what was required of a fire fighter. He also became a friend. When he retired completely and started spending winters in Arizona he kept in touch with me via email and I always enjoyed hearing from him and how he and his dog and his motorcycle. He will be missed.

Chief Low East Olympia Fire Dist 6 posted a condolence

A MESSAGE FROM CHIEF LOW:
It is with great sadness I report that Keith McDonald has passed away. Keith joined the department in 1986 and was a firefighter at our South Union Station. He obtained many certifications including First Responder EMT, EVAP instructor, and participated as a company officer at the county recruit schools. He became Station 63 Station Officer. Keith was very dedicated to the fire service and worked on many projects. He helped develop the first map book for our department. He was very proud of being part or our department.
After retiring from the Olympia Brewery Keith decided he did not want to get out of bed at night and run all the emergency responses, so Keith became a Fire Commissioner (1996). On January 1, 2003 he resigned as Commissioner so he could spend the winters in the warm Arizona sun

I replaced Keith on the Board of Fire Commissioners in East Olympia when he resigned and I consider it an honor to be the one who replaced him. I have talked with Keith on a few occasions and came to admire him almost instantly. His passing is a great loss to all of us. I would like him to know that we will keep him in our prayers and thoughts and know in our hearts that he no longer suffers the pain and suffering of a devastating disease as cancer. God Rest Your Soul, Keith.

Keith was a very good Democrat (and firefighter). As a conservative, he and I traded barbs from time to time, but even when we were at the greatest disagreement, he was always professional, courteous and gracious. I will miss our discussions and his always upbeat messages. We have lost a good one.

I am so sad to hear of his passing. I will echo the sentiments of Ed Mund in stating I was privileged to have known and worked with him. He was one I could count on when I was a resident with District #6 to help show me (as well as a few others) the ropes which was my foundation in my career.
Even in retirement he took time the time to check in with me and event drove down for a promotional ceremony here in Oregon.
Keith....thank you for everything !! You will me missed by many.

Keith was one of my favorite people I've ever known. I'm privileged to have worked, responded and taught with him in the fire service. His patience, guidance and mentoring are with me and countless others throughout the fire service, as well as those in his other passion, the Jeep Patrol. Thurston County is a better, safer place for his being here, and all who knew him are better people.
