Obituary of Dorothy McCallum

Dorothy McCallum, 90, a 50 year resident of Olympia died in her home on Eld Inlet Thursday, November 30. She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1916 to Carl and Mary Bumstead. She attended the University of Nebraska. She married David Cook of Melbourne Australia in 1939; they had one child and later divorced. She was remarried to Alfred McCallum of Rosedale, Indiana in 1944; they had 2 children and moved to Olympia in 1957. They divorced in 1971 and Alfred preceded her in death in 1986. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper and architectural draftsman for several local businesses. Dorothy will be remembered for her pride in home, sense of aesthetics, use of hands and strength of will. Her daughter Mary McCallum of Olympia, and son Peter McCallum, Tucson Arizona, survive her. Son, Michael McCallum, Olympia preceded her in death in 1999. Family, friends, neighbors and caregivers are invited to an informal gathering in honor of Dorothy’s life at her home on Saturday, December 9th between 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice, PO Box 5008, Lacey, Washington, 98509.
