I just learned this evening of the loss to our planet of Gene. We graduated together from OHS and had only minimal, but very dear, contact over the years. I had the pleasure of seeing him a few precious times in the last few years. (Thank you Mark, for telling me where to find him!)
In fond memory and sending all possible nurture to the family members.

Ashley, I know you have many loved ones and a wonderful family, but I wanted you to know that if you are ever in need of an extra shoulder or are in Portland, I’m here. Your dad was an amazing man and I’ll never forget his laugh or him allowing us to play with your newly hatched chickens. I wish you and your family the best, especially during these difficult times. It is with wonderful memories and a sad heart, I write to say my goodbye's to Gene. His mischievous smile and twinkling eyes will be missed by so many people who knew and loved him for who he was. Gene had such a kind heart, a trusting manner, and an over abundance of love and wit. His enjoyment of life was a lesson to many, and will sustain those of us that knew him and are left to carry on. So many memories going back to Olympia High School and the years after, where all of us were trying to making our mark, and deal with the constantly changing world. Gene made his mark, and that mark will live on for years to come and continue to influence all of us in one way or another. He touched so many and brought smiles to all that knew him. His passing is a true loss, and he will be missed.

Dear Dena,
I was saddened to see that your dear dad passed away. Although I had never met your dad, I know he must have been a wonderful man to have had such a lovely and caring daughter. May you find peace in knowing that you took such good care of him as he dealt with his illness. And, in the midst of all your worries, you still had time and compassion for my kidney woes!! Now is your time to rest and heal in the loving arms of your family. You are a dear friend and I miss our chats. Love and Friendship

Leslie and Dena.....I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. I really used to enjoy talking with him - he was a very nice man. Uncle Barney, I know Gene was like a brother to you and I'm feeling badly for you also. Even tho he's in a better place, I'm sure it doesn't make his passing any easier. My thoughts are with you and all the kids. Take care.

Dena, Leslie, Ashley and the entire Marelius family... It is with heavy hearts we send our deepest sympathy. We will remember him best with rosy red cheeks after coming home from a hunting or fishing trip, big smile on his face and always so eager to share his catch. He was a wonderful friend, neighbor and an all around wonderful human being that we feel blessed to have known. Our thoughts and love are with you at this difficult time.

Dena, Leslie and Ashley,
Words fail me at this time~~ Know that your dad was loved by many, far and wide, here on earth! And I have no doubt he and John are reviewing "old times" as we speak - with no pain!!
Know that we are here for each of you, whenever you need a shoulder or a good pair of listening ears!!
Love you ~ Connie
