Obituary of George Manley

George Manley Jr. passed away of heart failure in the early hours of November 23, 2007, in Shelton WA at the age of 58. George was born November 28, 1948 in Longview, WA to George Manley Sr. & Nancy Ruth Manley. George Served with the US Marine Corps after High School graduation from West High School in Bremerton WA in 1967. He served two tours of duty during the years 1967, 1968 & 1969 and was stationed at Da Nang Airbase, Vietnam as a helicopter gunner, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married his high school sweetheart, Darleen McColley, upon returning from his first tour of duty in Vietnam and returned shortly after their marriage to serve a second tour. George and Darleen were married several years then divorced but were reunited for three years prior to his passing. They have two sons, Shawn A. Manley, 37, of Ollala WA and Eric W. Manley, 33, of Redmond WA. George worked in sales management traveling extensively for the majority of his working career. George was an avid golfer which also included teaching the game of golf. He loved spending time playing the game with his sons and colleagues. He also took much pleasure as an amateur photographer, taking many professional looking scenic photos during his travels and in particular his travels to Alaska and of the phenomena known as the Alaskan Aurora Borealis. He was preceded in death by his mother Nancy. He is survived by his father, George Manley Sr. of Bremerton WA; a brother, Robert Manley; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues, and remembered as a generous and thoughtful man with a wonderful sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice, PO Box 5008 Lacey WA 98509 or the American Heart Association. There will be a memorial church service held on Friday, December 14th, 2007 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 25105 132nd Ave. SE, Kent WA 98042 at 11:30 a.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. Military Honor Guard Service at the Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., Covington WA 98042. A reception immediately following the services will be held at the home of family in the area.
