Obituary of Larry Allen Malo

No visitation Larry Allen Malo, 67, died peacefully at his home Monday, February 12th, surrounded by his family. He was born May 26, 1939 in Bottineau, North Dakota to Raymond and Yvette (Casavant) Malo. He was the eldest of nine children. When Larry was 2 years old his parents moved to the Seattle area, but he found them! Larry grew up in the White Center area, attended Holy Family grade school, graduated from O’Dea High School in 1957 and received a Masters of Public Administration from Seattle University. He worked for Boeing for 13 years and in 1970 started his 30 year career with the Employment Security Department. The Highlight of his career was when he served as Assistant Commissioner for the Employment and Training Division. Larry enjoyed golfing, skiing, traveling with family and playing cards with his friends. He and his wife Karen enjoyed playing golf with all the friends that they met at the Olympia Country Club and in their many travels. They especially enjoyed playing in couples tournaments. Larry is survived by his wife, Karen. Four children; Cheryl Malo of Renton, Brian Malo of Burien, Jodie (Jim) Kavanaugh and Chad “Chuck the Furnace Man” Carpenter of Olympia; five grandchildren; Trevor Malo, Kari and Craig Cinderich, and Kylie and Madison Kavanaugh. He is also survived by five brothers; Don, Duane, Marcus, Kenny and David and 3 sisters; Maryann, Darlene, Joanne, and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of Life for Larry at the Olympia Country Club on Sunday, February 25th at 3:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to ALS Evergreen Chapter, 19110 66th Ave. S. #G101, Kent, WA 98032.
