Chuck Lawson

Obituary of Chuck Lawson

Chuck passed away on January 13, 2007 at the age of 73. He was born on New Years Day, 1934 in Fort Lewis, Washington, as the third of nine children to Gloria and Garland Lawson. He was raised in Pierce County and honorably served his Country from 1951 to 1954 in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He returned to Washington to attend the University of Puget Sound, from which he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1961. During college, he met the single love of his life and married Jean Axtell in 1956. After graduation, Chuck pursued a successful career in business and sales around western Washington. Chuck loved golfing and enjoyed many other sports including basketball, baseball, football (especially the Huskies!) and tennis. Chuck and Jean lovingly raised two children in Tacoma and Battle Ground, Washington. Chuck was heavily involved in his kids' lives, including coaching many of their sports teams and taking summer trips to the beach. This love was also showered on all of his grandchildren. Chuck is preceded in death by his mother Gloria Lawson of Vancouver, Washington; brothers Robert and Thomas; and sister Rosemary Kendall. Chuck leaves behind his loving wife Jean in Tumwater; son and daughter in-law, Peter Lawson and Kirsten Smith of Seattle; daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Mark Golliet of Olympia; grandchildren Jackson Moore and Ben and Sarah Golliet; brothers Dave of Seattle, Dick of Sumner, and Jerry of Maple Valley; sisters Charlotte Damberg of Vancouver, Washington and Gloria Hubbard of Swartz Creek, Michigan and numerous nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank the staff at Panorama City Convalescent Center and Providence Hospice for their kindness and support during his illness. Per Chuck's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations in honor of Chuck Lawson to the National Parkinson's Foundation: 1501 NW 9th Ave Miami, FL 33136 or to the Briggs YMCA to allow families in need to participate in YMCA activities, including youth sports: 1530 Yelm Hwy SE Olympia, WA 98501.
