Our family was so blessed to have Chuck and Jean become a part of our extended family when their daughter, Samantha, married our son, Mark. Chuck's love for his family was so evident. I remember dancing with him at Mark and Sami's wedding and thanking him for sharing his daughter with us. His reply was that he was happy to - but that it would be hard. That spoke volumes to me of how much his family meant to him. Chuck's wonderful sense of humor always delighted us and the family times were special. As much as he will always be missed, his special qualities will be treasured in the hearts of all who knew him.

My most prevalent memory of Chuck is his focus on family, and how proud he was of Jean and the kids. He was always interested in others, even as his health declined, and I never saw him be unkind to anyone. He could catch you off guard with his dry, finely-tuned sense of humor hidden behind a straight face. He was a good person who will be missed.

Not much I can say, except I love you brother, and will miss your great sense of humor. I still think I could have kicked your butt on the golf course (if you would use my left handed clubs )

My heart is with you Jean, Pete, Sam and the rest of the family. I have to smile when I think of Chuck, The humor to this day makes me chuckle, some of the things he'd see if he could pull over on me lol. Such a good man. I feel so lucky to have been asked to watch Pete and Sam after school cause I got the chance to see what a wonderful family you were and the love Chuck showed you all stayed with me always..When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure...I know I will treasure the memories always..Good bye Chuck Thank you for being you!

We are pleased to have known Chuck for the last few years of his life. He was not able to say a lot by then but we still understood what a rich life he must have had in better days.
Laird fondly remembers, after one Thanksgiving dinner, how Chuck's sense of humor came out as he enjoyed jokes and laughter with him and the kid's friends.
Sharon especially remembers sitting alone with Chuck on the deck of the beach house that the family rented. Chuck was enjoying their quiet conversation during which he mentioned that he was proud of Pete, the person he became, and his accomplishments.
May memories of times like these support the family in the days ahead. We wish you peace and comfort.

Dear Jean, Pete, Sam and families,
My heart and family wishes to send you the warmest condolences, especially in these days still so close to Chuck's passing.
After visiting him last week, there was a flood of memories. He was a second father figure to me. I recall spending so much time at your home with Sam through the middle school and high school years. Chuck was always around, involved and with such a dry sense of humor. (I thought we'd never live down his comments after hitting that tree on the motorbike). Through the years, through getting together during college breaks, marriages, births and life, it has always been reassuring to witness and hear about the humor still there. May your families find peace in the abundance of memories and draw upon them often to keep his spirit alive for future generations.
With deepest sympathy from our family to yours,
Shannon, Eric, Amanda, Amy and Alex Kiefer

I remember Uncle Chuck the most from the few times I stayed overnight visiting Samantha. I thought it was "so cool" that he and Sam played tennis together. He adored his family and extended the same caring attitude toward everyone including me...except for maybe when he was grilling me on boyfriends. He always asked real serious-like, "So when am I gonna meet this guy?", then he'd smile that smile to let me know he was kidding- but not really kidding. I will miss him.

A big brother that didn’t pay much attention to me until I was 13 or 14 and decided to take up basketball. He taught me a jump shot and how to dribble and rebound but as I remember, he never showed me much about passing the ball. I learned over the years of playing with him that passing the ball was not part of his game. We had good times from pick-up games with the family to organized team play with fancy uniforms. I remember when Chuck and his friend Skip took us to McNeil Island to play the prisoners. What an experience that was!
I was very excited when Chuck asked me to be a groomsman at his wedding. I was 16 and it was the first time I ever wore a tuxedo (probably the first time to wear anything other than dirty jeans and a tee-shirt). He told me that I ‘cleaned up pretty good”.
When Chuck was in college, he worked nights at the Fort Lewis Golf Course and I used to keep him company on the weekends. We would play cards all night and I don’t think I ever beat him at any game. He once gave me a driving lesson in the Jeep that he used to do his job and I almost drove it into the building where he worked. Needless to say, I only had one lesson.
It is ironic that I took up the game of golf that he loved so much after he was no longer able to play. He would have just hated my golf swing.
I will miss him.

Dear Jean, Sam and Pete,
My memories go way back to the first time I met the Lawson family and especially all those Lawson boys. I remember the Beatles being so popular then and that my new brother-in-law Chuck reminded me of Paul McCartney...Mr. Good Look'in. It's important to mention how much I enjoyed Chuck's great sense of humor, how good he was to everyone and how much his brothers admired him....especially in his love of sports. Chuck will be very much missed by all who knew him and especially by his family.
You are all in our prayers at this very difficult time.
With my sympathy and love,
Linda

I will always remember Uncle Chuck as a quiet comedian. I am happy to have great memories of him at family reunions, Christmas at Aunt Rosemary’s and the family beach vacation we took when Sam, Pete and I were very young. He will be missed.

My brother. A great sense of humor and one who never forgot a good joke. Excellent golfer who played one round with me and said I would never be invited back, and I was not. As a teen, Chuck was a very talented athlete and pitched in a baseball pony league. I played against him a few times and he always managed to hit me with a pitch in every game. Best card player I ever knew and a guy who always knew every card that had been played.
Had a nice little MG roadster that my brothers and I helped him maintain because he was not a great mechanic, but he was fun to spend time with even when he tried to get one of us to syhpon gas for him because he didn't want to do it. (we were not stealing it).
Difficult to see his health decline but happy that he achieved serenity in escaping the difficult health burdens of his last few years. Always family, always on our minds, forever in our hearts.
