Carma Koenig

Obituary of Carma Eileen Koenig

Carma Koenig was a woman with a passion for life. That passion was something she shared with everyone around her.Carma was born on April 3, 1924 to Abraham and Jean Mathison in the town of Walla Walla, WA. She was the second of five vivacious children, sisters DeDe, Beverly and Doreen and brother A.J. Each had a zest for life and enjoyed the large family and many friends surrounding them. Carma’s life was full, but became complete when she met Paul Koenig on March 6, 1944. Their love was true and they were married on June 4 of that same year. Carma’s feelings for Paul were immense and the bond they had was an inspiration to us all. The story of their three month courtship was one she loved to share. Paul’s hum was always beating in Carma's heart. The two would light up any room they entered and if there wasn’t a dance floor Paul and Carma would make one. As a loving mother Carma was always full of words of praise for her six children - Mike, John, Kristy, Mark, Susan and Kirk. They fondly recall her claiming - "I'm so glad I had you!" She raised confident and happy children that went on to create beautiful families filled with love and appreciation for one another. She now has 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, with one more on the way. Seldom do you encounter a woman with such a positive outlook on life. She always had something nice to say about everyone and taught her kids how to be independent and how to deeply love their families. Paul and Carma moved throughout the northwest, but their true home was in Walla Walla, WA. There are so many fond memories for the Mathisons and Koenigs in this town. Shortly after Paul passed in May of 2000, Carma moved to Olympia to be closer to her children but her heart and soul were always with Paul. Carma is happy to be in his loving embrace once again... and we are all lucky to have had Carma and Paul Koenig as inspirational people in our lives. Special thanks to all of those who have touched Carma’s life, including family, friends and care-providers. A service will be held on Friday, December 21st at 11:00 AM at St. Louise Parish (141 156th Ave SE), Bellevue, WA. Donations can be made to the Susan M. Koenig Fund via The Seattle Foundation, 1200 5th Ave Suite 1300, Seattle, Washington 98101.
