Obituary of Lawrence Thomas Howe

Lawrence (Lary) Thomas Howe, 62, of McCleary, Washington died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness on April 23, 2005 in Olympia, Washington, at the Puget Sound Healthcare nursing facility. He was born November 26, 1942 to Warren Lewis (Jr.) and Mary Olive McMahon Howe, in Portland, Oregon. He grew up in Portland, Oregon and graduated in 1960. In 1961, he married Donna Cendana with whom he had four beautiful daughters. He attended Portland State University, University of Maryland and eventually the Evergreen State College. He spent four years in the Air Force, some of which he spent overseas in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged January 22, 1965. Lary became a civil engineer in 1967, working for Multnomah County, Oregon, and Pacific and Grays Harbor Counties, Washington concluding his engineering career with AHR Engineering of Tacoma. In 1969, he moved to Montesano, Washington with his family, where he resided until 1989. He returned to Grays Harbor county in 2001 and lived in the Bee Hive Retirement Center. Lary enjoyed word games such as Scrabble and Crossword puzzles. He was an avid photographer, and videographer known for his full documentary style. He also occasionally dabbled in the visual arts. He is survived by his daughters; Shaunne Hill, of Coos Bay, Oregon; Visudha de los Santos (Stephanie), of Olympia, WA; Seraphina Mularoni, of Snoqualmie, WA; Jerusala Evans, of Elma, WA; and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Kelly, Steve, Patrick, and Tigue Howe; and sisters Colleen Nuttbrock, Molly Strong, and Michelle Tenneson. Shirley Graves of McCleary was his loving companion for the last few years. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2005 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
