My deepest sympathes to your family. I enjoyed the few visits I got to spend with him and am honored that I got to be there to help Larry as much as possible. My husband sure enjoyed talking with Larry that day he came with me. I wish I could have known him sooner because I bet he could keep a party going. You did a great job caring for him and mixing the TPN daily, be proud of yourself. Peace go with you all Sincerely Diana/Mike`

Dear Ted, Gretchen,Caroline and Andy
We are going to really miss your Dad. Duke and I have so many memories of him, silly things we did..When Duke and Larry were going to Tacoma Tech I went along to visit relatives while they were in school and when I picked them up we "pooled" our money to go to the McDonalds in Tacoma..burgers were about .18 then!!Sometimes even had enough for a buck or two for the gas tank...and fries! larry did come by after church a lot and scolded us for not going, but he also had another reason, I had breakfast ready...but the advice stayed with us. When Duke and Larry went to Yakima and found the Stude it was in a really BAD neighborhood...after larry bought it he couldn't make it back over for about 3 weeks, so Duke went over and contacted two guys that lived over there and they all went over to pay for it.. the two guys came packin guns and towed it out of that yard to their place. Duke said they were all sweatin til they got the car out of the area...don't think the folks would recognize it now so you're safe!!
The one constant in his life was always you kids...he would talk with us some about how he did things with Ted and usually came to the same conclusion..he was to hard at times but thats just part of being a parent, we all make mistakes but it didn't lessen the fact that he dearly loved you kids and he was really gone on those grandchildren. Caroline you had that spot only a daughter can have...Dads have such a tender place for the daughter and I know how much larry loved you and he was so proud of you and Ted. He said how blessed he was that you both found such wonderful spouses and that he couldn't have loved them more.
I was so amazed at Duke getting up to talk about Larry, he has a really hard time with that but his love for Larry let him be brave and he's missing him already. We were so glad that Val was able to go see your Dad and help him find the peace he needed. We are all going to miss his sense of humor, his big heart and his helping hand. May God richly bless each of you and your Mom, Elaine. Take care and I'm sure Duke will gladly tell you more stories of your Dad anytime. Hold on to those memories, he was a good man, great friend and loved his children....love you........Duke & Elaine

A constant reminder of Larry's generosity, humour and artistry stands in our home in the simple, beautiful case of our grandfather clock. One afternoon during a visit he casually commented on the loose clockworks and stated, "Let me see what I can do." He returned with an elegantly crafted cabinet.
This and the fall cider squeezings and many hardy laughs are a few of the many gifts that Larry has given us. Larry could always make us laugh. For a crumudgeon, he sure was a lot of fun. Actually, he was more like a porcupine, all those sharp, prickly quills sticking out to protect his soft insides. Our very, shy little girls were never fooled and to this day still love "Mr. House", as do we.

While in Olympia for the holidays, I happened to see this obit. Larry and I went to school together, and I always considered him a friend. He was a great guy, and I was so sorry to read of his passing. My deepest condolences to his family, and all others who cared about him throughout his life. He will be missed, but with good thoughts for the guy he was.
