Obituary of Glenn LeRoy Harvey

Glenn LeRoy Harvey Glenn LeRoy Harvey, 55, was born in Olean, New York on January 27th, 1952 to Marge and Walter Harvey. He grew up in Pennsylvania and Artesia, California. He passed away peacefully October 8 in Olympia’s St. Peters Hospital. He is survived by his wife Michelle; his children, Shannon, Robert and Steve; his mother, Marge Harvey; his two sisters and brother in-laws, Jayne and Dutch Streiff and Susan and Russ Applegren; his nieces and nephews, Jenny and Brad Pope, Chelsea and Joe Kincaid, Comfort and Scott Langill, Katie and Brian Nuttbock, and Doug Applegren and their families. Glenn never backed down from a challenge. As Artesia High School’s student body president, he led the fight to allow girls to wear pants to school. When he worked with handicapped adults in Idaho, he organized a shutdown of the ranch once it was discovered that the residents were being abused. Glenn attended UCLA on an academic and athletic scholarship (swimming and water polo). After his freshman year, he dropped out to ride his motorcycle across the United States. When he returned to California, he found a draft notice waiting. He served two years in the Army as a swim coach. He later attended Cal State Fullerton on a swim scholarship, graduated with a B.A. in Political Science, was named an All-American, and coached a youth swim team in Mission Viejo. He graduated from Gonzaga Law School with honors and served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review. He joined the Attorney General’s office in 1986 and stayed for 11 years—it was the place where he truly enjoyed practicing law. In 1988, he went before the United States Supreme Court. He since worked at the Office of the Courts and the Seattle Municipal Courts. A 22-year Olympia resident, he loved watching his children compete and would spend hours with them during competitions, especially at wrestling tournaments. Whatever Glenn decided to do, he did with a passion: raising bumper tomato crops, fishing, camping, hunting, boating and pulling his children around on inner tubes, riding sea-doos, celebrating the 4th of July with massive amounts of fireworks, cooking Thanksgiving turkeys with Brad, investing for his family's future, watching the stock market’s opening bell, reading any newspaper he could get his hands on, raising aquarium fish, cooking, swimming, playing racquetball, collecting sports cards, smoking cigars, dealing a poker hand, sharing his Harveyisms, and rooting for the Lakers.
