Obituary of Colonel Harvey Norris Hallom

none Colonel Harvey Norris Hallom, 88, a 44 year resident of Lacey, died of cancer on Friday, March 17, 2006. He was born December 22, 1917 in Ada, Minnesota to Helmer and Zelma Hallom. He attended high school in Chilliwack, British Columbia. On October 10, 1946, in Bellingham, Washington, he married the former Mary Etzel. She died on January 2, 2000. From 1943 – 1945 Harvey was in the Coast Guard. He joined the Washington State Patrol in 1942, rejoining the patrol in 1945. He retired in 1977 with the rank of Colonel. Harvey lived in Bellingham from 1945 until 1958. He moved to Sunnyside from 1959 – 1961 after which he settled in Lacey until his death. Harvey loved boating, traveling, helping others, and was involved with the Washington State Patrol Historical Society. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #36. He is survived by his sons, Mike Hallom (Carol), Longview and Norris Hallom, Tumwater; one brother, Don Hallom (Maria), Deetsville, Alabama; two grandchildren, Casey Hallom (Candy) and Cloe Hallom; also 3 great grandchildren. Preceding Harvey in death are his parents; two sisters, Irene Cunningham and Florence Tomlinson; and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Masonic Center, 521 North St. S.E., Tumwater.
