Obituary of Terry E. Davenport

Terry E. Davenport Terry Davenport, 60, of Olympia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on November 27, 2011, due to complications from a stroke. He was born on April 8, 1951 in Woodbury, New Jersey to Edward and Mildred Davenport. Terry graduated from Pennsville High School in 1970. He served 2 tours in Vietnam, New York State, Germany, Korea, and Fort Lewis, WA, 1970-1985 with the US Army, Sergeant First Class. After his years in the military, Terry joined the Tumwater Police Department as a patrolman, lieutenant patrolman and detective, and acting commander. He was responsible for bringing the D.A.R.E. program to Tumwater schools during that time. In 2001, Terry realized a lifelong goal to become a police chief. From 2001-2011, he served in that capacity in Shelton, WA. During that time, he had the opportunity to attend and graduate from the 217th Session of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, in 2004. Upon retirement in March, 2011, he became a program manager for the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. He was a member of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, Kiwanis, United Way, various other organizations, and helped in the implementation of Drug Court in Mason County. Terry enjoyed woodworking, boating, bowling, and golf. He loved his family and friends deeply and cherished his time with them. Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa, of 21 years, 2 sons and 2 daughters, Aaron, Seth, Elise (Brimhall) and Linda(Mott), his mother, Mildred, his brother, Larry (Barb), and sister, Nancy Hadley, grandchildren, Olivia and Daris Brimhall, Hunter Fields, Emma and Madison Mott, and numerous other relatives.
