I met Terry in 1980 and I was 12 years old. My mom and Terry were friends and I had just moved to live with my mom in Washington. It's a long story but until I met Terry I had no positive male role model in my life. Terry took me to a store one day and bought me my first bicycle and suggested I race it. It was the coolest bike ever and I raced! Terry worked his spare time catching shoplifters at a grocery store. He used to take me to work with him and I'd watch him in action. That was awesome! Terry probably never realized what those things did for me to shape me into who I became and I'm so sorry I never had the chance to tell him. I became a corporate investigator working organized retail crime in San Francisco as a career. I also race bikes to this day, have ridden my bicycle across the U.S. solo, rode my bike from SF to Colorado Springs to get married and on 10/19/13 I'm riding my bike 1600 miles from upstate NY to GA to visit my mom. Thank you so much Terry for all you did and to his family I am truly sorry for your loss.

Teresa, when we are young, we decide to go make a "mark" in the world. At journey's end, can we look back and see a legacy we've passed down? Are there actual flesh and bone people we have touched - made a positive difference in their lives? With Terry it is a resounding YES. Whether it was his time of service with the military, Tumwater PD, Shelton PD, Traffic Safety Commission, or family, friends, comrades and colleagues and church, the ripples of his life continue spreading outward.
Elsie and I are still in the Philippines or we'd have been at Terry's Memorial. He was a class act, and we are blessed to have known and worked wit him. Our comfort is, we'll get to see him later. We'll be praying for you and the family.

When I read that Terry had passed I was shocked. When I was in Teresa's 5&6th grade class I was honored to have known him as one of our dare officers. I could definately see the love they had for eachother and for their family. I really took to heart what he had taught us and this is one DARE graduate that actually stayed that way. He was an inspiration to me and I hope to pass on to my daughter his teachings and hope that she has someone at her school (when she is old enough) who is just as inspiring. I am glad that my dad and I were able to attend last night-it meant a lot to us. My prayers are with you and the family during this upcoming holiday and may the new year be blessed.

To Teresa and Davenport family,
I have had the pleasure of knowing Terry as a fellow Police Chief and since he retired I have worked with him in the world of Traffic Safety as a Co-chair of the WASPC Traffic Committee. He has been a most dedidicated leader in law enforcement for many years and a valued leader in the traffic safety community. Terry will be truely missed, but of course he will remain with us in memory of the great example he set for many years to come. Please accepy my most sincere condolences for your loss.

I am praying for all of you at the loss of Terry. It was my pleasure to have known him. Terry, was a very dedicated person in his work. I had many talks with him and he always listened to what you had to say. He was helpful in many ways by the advice he gave me. The last time I talked with him was before March, he waas telling me about his new venture and how much he was looking forward to it. RIP Terry, you will be missed..

On behalf of myself and all of us at the Prosecuting Attorney's Office, I want to express our deepest sympathies to all of Terry's family. I was fortunate to work with Terry on several important cases during his time with Tumwater Police and also on the project that created the Monarch Children's Justice and Advocacy Center. Terry was not only a fine police officer, leader and dedicated advocate for children, but also an extraordinarily kind and compassionate man. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I never met Terry's family, but worked with him as our county came together to form the Monarch Children's Justice and Advocacy Center. Terry was a founding member of a group committed to working together. I am so thankful I had the chance to work with him. He was a good man and care deeply about the communities he served as well as his family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

It's so difficult to find the right words at a time like this...I met Terry when he became a Program Manager at the WTSC. He seemed very excited to start a new chapter of "retirement"; for him that meant transferring to a fulltime position! However when I read his life's accomplishments, this probably came as no surprise to the family. Terry was genuine, dedicated and extremely hard-working. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Our thoughts are with Terry's family this week during this very difficult time. As one of Terry's co-workers at the Traffic Safety Commission, I had the opportunity to get to know him a bit in the past several months. We had some fun discussions about music, and found out we shared a love for Warren Zevon. One particular song, Keep Me In Your Heart For A While, has been swirling in my head over the past couple days. "When the winter comes keep the fires lit and I will be right next to you - keep me in your heart for a while." I hope you all find strength and comfort in family and friends during this time.
