I remember my mom and dad, Sylvia and Mengie Shulman, taking me to Bell Island when I was a child to meet Isaac. Unfortunately time has erased most of those memories other than the great respect in which the Cohen name and family were held by the community. My deepest sympathies on your loss.

When I first met Isaac and Katie in 1991 they treated Sheryl and I as family and were always glad to see us. Isaac helped me get my computer business going and always had some great marketing ideas. At times he knew more about things happening in the field of computers than I did
It was also fun to hear him and Katie "talking" :) about many things, eating with them, or just stopping by to say hi.
It has been a pleasure to meet his son Paul and step children as well.
I will miss Isaac as dear friend, business advisor, and a gentleman.

My thoughts are with you as I send you condolences on the passing of your father whom I remember so well. The last time I saw him was when my father and your father's sister, Ruth, were married in Toronto in the early 80's. It had been many years since I had seen your father but I thought he hadn't changed at all since I first met him when I was a young child. You may remember what an avid photographer my father was. He transferred all his home movies recording our wonderful childhood onto video tapes of which I have copies. If ever you decide to do a "roots" trip back home, I would be very pleased to see you again and share with you videos of you and your parents from Dad's movies. I hope you find comfort and solace in your memories of your father and in thoughts and stories friends share with you at this time. My sincere sympathy on the death of your father. 94 - what a wonderful age to reach. My Mother reached 95, and we often talked about the many things she had seen and done in her long life. I'm sure you and your Father have shared such conversations, and I hope you will find comfort in the many wonderful memories that you no doubt have of him.

Prayers were said in the shul on Elizabeth Avenue before sundown today for Isaac. It was Isaac who was established our cemetary so many years ago on Blackmarsh Road. It was a great mitzvah, the first and most important task for anyone establishing a Jewish community. I knew Isaac only by mail--he wrote wonderderful letters and he made my cousin Parry love him which made me love him. Isaac was a real mensch. I am writing a history of the Jewish community in Newfoundland and Labrador, and I would be happy to hear from anybody who has information to include.
