Obituary of Isaac Cohen

Isaac Cohen passed away peacefully on January 1, 2005 in his 94th year, at his home in Lacey, Washington. Isaac was born in Bell Island, Newfoundland, the oldest of five children of Nathan and Lottie Cohen. He attended Bishop Field College and Memorial University in St. John’s and Dalhousie in Halifax. In the 30’s he was a noted bandleader whose passion for music endured throughout his lifetime. He was a member of Whiteway Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, and served four Grand Masters. In 1940, Isaac married the former Kay Woodman. He and Kay lived in St. John’s, Newfoundland and then in Orillia, Ontario. Following Kay’s passing in 1981, he married Katie (Kearney) Campbell of Lacey, Washington, who was an old friend from St. John’s. She died in 2002. Isaac lived in Lacey for the past 22 years where he played a major role in the annual Panorama City Patio Sale. Isaac made friends everywhere he lived. He was an avid bridge player, gardener, and community leader, and will be remembered as a man of his word, with a firm handshake and simple lifestyle. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his brother Jack (Lynda) and his son Paul (Kathryn) and grandchildren, Suzanne and Michael, all of Toronto, and his step-children, Michael, of Rhode Island, Patrick and Parry Campbell, of California. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be spread upon the waters of Puget Sound, without ceremony, as he wished.
