Kenneth Campbell

Obituary of Kenneth Campbell

none Kenneth Campbell passed away quietly on November 14, 2005 at the age of 70, at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, WA, surrounded by his family. His wife Irene and four children, George, Kathy, Michael and Leonard, survive him. Six grandchildren, Kenny, Christina, Stephanie, Kole, Kody, Kory and Hailey, also survive him. At the age of 17, like so many young men of his generation, Ken left home and joined the Army, where he proudly served a full 20 years, then retired from the military. On January 6, 1958 in Frankfurt, Germany, Ken married a shy, pretty young woman from Birx, Germany named Irene, who became his lifelong partner of 47 years. Ken enthusiastically enjoyed the company of family and friends. He had a full and wonderful life right up to the time when his health began to fail. He enjoyed countless fishing trips with his wife and kids, which included their annual deep sea fishing expeditions out of Westport, WA. After the kids were grown and gone, Ken and Irene took up a serious but fun commitment to league bowling. For many years they enjoyed being in a strong supportive community of bowlers at the Westside Bowling Lanes in Olympia, WA. When his growing health problems began to restrict his activities, Ken took an interest in birds and small animals, particularly a quickly growing family of cockatiels, several of which he raised and nurtured by hand. He named them Pinky, Lucky, Mikey, Kathy, Stephanie, Marty, Kenny, Blondie, Penny… and several more that I can’t even remember. He had a huge affection for his birds, and he even insisted on a family bird cemetery in the back yard for those beloved birds that have passed away. Most recently, a very important part of his life was the time he could spend at his computer with a large community of cyber friends throughout the country. By way of several chat rooms, some of which he created himself, his online friends helped to keep him in touch with the outside world that he felt he might otherwise lose track of. For that, we thank them all. Thanks for taking the time to remember Ken, husband, father, friend to many, loved by all. He will be sorely missed, but his memory will live forever inside each of us. At his request, no public service will be held. Please leave online condolences in our guest book.
