I met Karen at St. John’s choir. I got to sit in between Kate and Karen, which was the best place to enjoy the jokes, the chuckles, and learn the music. Karen knew all the descants, and she and Kate harmonized on some of the liturgical music. We had a lot of fun, and I came to have a great respect for Karen’s encyclopedic memory & knowledge of all-things Episcopalian. And then there were her impish moments, e.g., parodies of Gilbert and Sullivan. The three of us talked about, but never got to do “Three little maids from school are we.”
Mike & I stopped by at Lacey a few times to visit Karen after she moved. She was so thin by then, but I have fond memories of her mischievous look when we made poppy seed pound cake together and she licked the mixing bowl with great pleasure. I really miss you, Karen, but I’m glad you are not suffering. Rest in peace.

Karen was a wonderful person. We both worked for Engineering Department, which merged with Water Department and is now called Seattle Public Utilities. Karen was a member of our 50+ Affinity Group. She was our champion for understanding the in’s & out’s of the retirement system. She was always very nice, kind and considerate of everyone. She was a very lovely person & I’m glad I got to know her.

To Karen’s family & friends, know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We didn’t know Karen well, but always thought she was a special person. Knowing her parents, it is obvious where her values sprang from.

Karen an I shared many interests, we were matinee movie buffs. I remember when we saw “Shadowlands” (concerning the life of C.S. Lewis,) we realized that Mr. Lewis might be the perfect man.
Since neither of us could actively court Mr. Lewis in the 1990’s, we agreed to remain single.
Karen kept her status, but I did not. However, I didn’t decide on an Oxford Don.
I will miss your ironic sense of humor Miss Karen!

Dear Friend,
How I remember the many times you helped Kathy Tremain process down the aisle and helped her with her music every Sunday. Sitting by you in choir was such a pleasue. I felt we were singing a duet. You helped me so much. I can still hear your voice soaring with joy every Sunday. You were truly an amzing person. Your humor was a gift also. What a blessing you were to St John’s. Many miss you. But , now you’re singing with the angels. May God find a place for you close to Him.

Dear Friend,
I’ll remember the years I sat next to you at St. John’s and relied on you for the high notes I couldn’t reach. You’re singing with the angels now but you’ll be missed here on earth.
You were and still are, dearly loved.

Karen was one the first folks we met when we first arrived at St. John’s in 2008. Her bright smile and loving heart were immediately evident, and her joyful singing brightened the worship at St. John’s. We will miss her, but I somehow see her in the presence of God, bringing Him joy in song, and in whatever further tashs he may have for her!
