Karen Younge

Obituary of Karen Elizabeth Younge

Karen Elizabeth Younge died peacefully on August 31, 2014 at the age of 58. She was born in Queens, New York, on January 11, 1956, to Richard Younge and Edith Adele (Trice) Younge. She graduated from Leland High School in San Jose, California, and received a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Davis. Karen served in the Seattle Public Works Department for over 25 years before she retired. Surviving Karen are her mother; her sister, Diane Wilson; and her brother, Richard Younge; and seven nieces and a grand-nephew who remember her affectionately as Aunt Kitty. Her father and brother, David, predeceased her. Karen was a dedicated lover of our feline friends. Attending and participating in cat shows were among her passions. Over the years, she became the family genealogist. She meticulously researched and documented the Trice and Younge family histories back into the early 19th Century, finding family roots in Brooklyn, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Barbados, and England. Karen was always concerned about the environment. She spent her last year remodeling her retirement home in Lacey, Washington, incorporating as many earth-friendly principles as she could. Karen sang in the St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral choir for 10 years. Then she added her soprano voice to the choir of St John’s Episcopal Church in Kirkland for over 20 years. A memorial service celebrating her life and devotion to choral music will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 105 State St. S, Kirkland, WA. Contributions in Karen’s memory may be made to the music program at St. John’s. Please leave memories of Karen or condolences for the family in the Guestbook below.
