Obituary of Douglas A. Strand

Douglas A. Strand, Jr. passed away September 12, 2014 in Olympia, Washington, at age 42. He was born February 5, 1972 to Douglas and Carolyn Strand at Fort Lewis/Tacoma, Washington. He graduated from Capital High School in 1991 and worked many jobs with the assistance of Morningside. Doug was active in Thurston County Parks and Recreation bowling and baseball, for which he won many Special Olympics gold and silver medals. He was proud of his ’51 Harley Davidson Hummer, which he and his dad restored. He is survived by his parents; brother, Steve Strand (Becky); and sisters, Lisa Pippin-Hall (Mike), Peggy LeHew (Stacy), and Shellee Jornlin (Kevin). He was predeceased by his grandparents, Elmer and Joan Strand, and Frank and Margaret Wade; uncle, Frank Wade Jr.; and cousins, Stephanie Stewart and Laura Por. Special thanks to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for the kindness and care they gave Doug. Thanks also to the West Olympia Safeway store and the Hawks Prairie Casino where Doug enjoyed your friendships, love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s name may be made out to Thurston County Special Olympics and mailed to the Doug Strand Jr. Memorial Fund at 2738 20th Ave. NW, Olympia, WA 98502.
