Obituary of Harold Douglas Stewart

Long-time McCleary resident, Harold Douglas Stewart, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014, at the Capital Medical Center in Olympia, Washington; he was 82. Doug, commonly known as Daddy-O by his close friends, was born in Clarksville, Arkansas, on December 1, 1931 to Robert Albert Stewart and Mamie Iva (East) Stewart. He attended schools in Clarksville and Lamar, Arkansas. Doug relocated to WashingtonState from Texas after being drafted into the United States Army. Doug was a member of the 2nd Infantry Division, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington. While stationed at Ft. Lewis, Doug met Claudia Leitner; they later married and were blessed with five children. After 20 years of marriage, Doug and Claudia divorced, but remained lifelong friends. In the early years, Doug worked for the city of McCleary during the day and Simpson Door Co. at night. After a back injury while on the job, he gave up the city job. Doug retired in 1994 from the Simpson Door Company after 38 years. He spent 20+ years in the plywood section and the rest of the time barring doors. Doug is survived by his two daughters, Marcie Alderman (Bill Harp) of Montesano, and Iva Madison (Randy) of McCleary; sisters, Pauline Loving and Laurie Wiley of Pasadena Texas; grandchildren, Mike (Meagan) Madison, Melody (Brandon) Worth, Roby (Lacey Kendall) Madison, Tyson Alderman, Ashley (Cody) Sample, and Preston Stewart. Doug also enjoyed 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and Weldon; sisters, Gina and Juanita; twin daughters, Raeann and Raenene; and son, Robert Douglas. A Celebration of Life is planned for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the McCleary United Methodist Church, 426 S. 3rd Street, McCleary.
