Douglas Schiebler

Obituary of Douglas Dean Schiebler

Doug Schiebler passed away on December 31, 2013 at the age of 62 at home in Tenino, Washington, after waging a two-year battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Theodore Schiebler, and mother, Betty Jo Anderson Schiebler. He is survived by siblings, Amy Jo Boman of Spokane, Washington, Leslie Schiebler of Boise, Idaho, and Tim Schiebler of Redmond, Washington. Doug grew up in Kellogg, Idaho, graduated from Boise State University, and worked for some of the largest construction contractors in the US during his career in Industrial Labor Relations. He started his career with Morrison Knudson, first at the Locomotive Shops in Boise and later at the INEL as the Labor Relations Manager. He also worked for Ames Construction based in Minneapolis and for NECA in Eugene, Oregon. Doug ended his career working as the Senior Industrial Relations Manager for Fluor Constructors in Illinois. He particularly enjoyed the time he spent working for Johnson Controls at Los Alamos. He loved the weather, the great restaurants, the amazing sunsets, and the people in Santa Fe. Doug was an imposing and capable professional in his working life and was the one who offered to mentor the many young people who crossed his path in the ever-changing world of labor relations. Doug was a gentleman in every sense of the word and a friend to a chosen few. He respected genuine people and had zero tolerance for deceit. His loyalty to his friends and worthy members of his family was immeasurable, as were his core values of trust, honor and integrity. If you possessed those qualities, he would embrace you, protect you and cherish you; if not, he felt pity for you. He was generous and caring in a very private way. He did so because it mattered and because he felt so lucky to have more than he needed or wanted. He lived a quiet life and enjoyed old friends, good food and fine wine, trapshooting and road trips. He loved skiing at Bogus Basin, floating the Boise River with da’ boys and beers, cold clear mornings, and the promise of a new day. He really loved Amy, huckleberries, his 1972 Chevelle SS, drag racing, shooting pool and hangin’ out with the Hatch’s. There will be a celebration of life in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho in September 2014 to coincide with Doug’s favorite time of the year, as he requested. Please notify Terry Hatch at 253-343-8177 or robertthatch@gmail.com if you would like to receive further information on dates, times, etc. He has also requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to “The Hospice Promise Foundation” at http://lhcgroup.com/foundation, designated in his name and to the Thurston County Washington fund. Please leave memories of Doug or condolences for his loved ones in the Guestbook below.
