Obituary of Shirley M. Ramsey

Shirley, 69, passed away July 30, 2013 in Olympia, Washington, her home of 47 years. She was born November 10, 1943 to Kenneth and Jessie Ramsey in Portland, Oregon. Shirley graduated from Pasco High (1961), WSU (1966), and PLU (1987). In 1966, she began her teaching career in the Olympia School District as a special education teacher. She held various positions with the Olympia, Rainier and Tenino School Districts. ESD 113 chose Shirley as Special Education Director of the Year 1999-2000. She retired in 2009 from the Tenino School District. Shirley was always cheerful and positive. She was a very giving and generous “Auntie.” She loved travel, arts and crafts (scrapbooking, knitting), theater and opera. She was a member of the National Educational Association, Sierra Club, Council for Exceptional Children, WSU Alumni (always the Coug!), and Rainbow Girls (past Worthy Advisor). Shirley was survived by her brother, Donald (Sandy) Ramsey of Spokane, Wash.; sister, Nancy Zahn of Tumwater, Wash.; two nieces; one nephew; one great niece; four great nephews; aunt, Nancy (David) MacCollum of Arizona; several cousins; and many close, supportive friends. Memorial donations may be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation athttp://www.myasthenia.org. There will be a graveside memorial in Vancouver, Washington, where she will be buried with her parents, and a celebration of life in Olympia.
