Thank you to everyone for your heartfelt wishes to our Family. I am honored to see the messages and to hear all of the gracious comments about my Dad. Although this has been a difficult time, to hear stories of and about him through his colleagues/friends and other family members,it gives me additional insight to how he affected people and another side to who he was. I had just visited my Dad 10 days before his passing. He was smiling and enjoying the company of 3 generations–myself, my daughter and her daughter–this spending time with family was most joyous to him. His last picture was with his Great Granddaughter. This is the vision that I will try to keep in my head – as he held her and had her jumping as he sang- Jump Jack Jump, all the while she smiling back at him.
Dad–I appreciate the time you took to spread yourself out to all of your daughters, making trips to see us, to attend special events, to support us when needed, support our children and watch them grow; give advice; making sure we ALL were ok. In addition just looking out for and being there for family. The game of life is a roller coaster. I can look back and say you have shown me that it truly is not about how you start but how you finish. Thank You!

I worked under Nelson when I first began my career with the state of Washington (ESD) and as many more can attest grew to love the genuine kind and compassionate person he was. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to see him this past year and get to see him smile and hear his laugh. My prayers are with your whole family during this most difficult time. I hope knowing that many who knew Nelson genuinely loved the man we knew. I expect there is much laughter in heaven between he and others that have gone before him – blessings to you all. You will be missed Nelson, tell Thomas hi for me ☺️

Nelson was a colleague, advisor and a very trusted friend. We worked closely together for a number of years at the Employment Security Department. I always enjoyed Nelson’s unique perspective as he viewed life, events, and history from a very different place than I did and yet I always learned from him and I know I became a better person due to his influence in my life. In retirement, he continued offering perspective and advice as we both experienced the wonders of aging and he always end his recitation of his latest malady with the phrase, “… getting old is for the birds.”
To his family, his loved ones and his friends, I know you are grieving and feeling a void in your life. I hope you are able to take heart in the many memories of this remarkable and gracious man. And to my friend Nelson…”and the rest of the day too…”

I was fortunate to have Nelson as an advisor and team member all of those years at ESD. He was a brilliant leader who always added a deeper, more thoughtful perspective to matters. “When Nelson Meyers talked, people listened.”
He also made the best barbeque sauce I ever ate and I could never duplicate it!!
Rest in peace, my friend.

Nelson was a motivational leader, humble public servant, supportive colleague and valued friend. Without doubt I can honestly say that I loved Nelson like a brother! His positive spirit was contagious and often brought sunshine to a cloudy and overcast day. Nelson believed in mankind, and always sought to do the right things for the right reasons. He championed causes for Customers as well as Employees, and often served as the Employment Security Department’s conscience when addressing difficult challenges. Nelson respected and valued people and relationships which is evident in the diversity of his circle of friends, associates and loved ones. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. One Love to Nelson’s family, friends and all those who were blessed to have known him.

I reported to Nelson for many years. First in the Office of Regional Affairs, until the name changed to Work Source Operations Division (WSOD). Nelson was an A-1 boss. He treated me well and while we worked hard, we had so many laughs at the same time. At our International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP) conference we honored Nelson when we heard of his passing. “Top of the Morning to you”….and we responded with “And the rest of the day to you.” God bless you Nelson, I am sure you will meet up with Willis and you will have a good laugh together. Prayers and thoughts to Nelson’s daughters and family members.
