Obituary of Diana Lee Meyer

Di passed away on the last day in May And among her last words, “I’m okay!” Diana Lee (Wright) Meyer died at the home she shared with her husband, Burt, on Mud Bay after a long battle with cancer. She kept her well-known spirit and sense of humor until the end. Di was not religious, but she was very spiritual. She believed that some power designed the earth and the universe, and she approached death without fear but with the sense of adventure and curiosity that she displayed in life. The Catholic catechism teaches that “God created us in his own image and likeness” but Di suspected that the opposite was the case, “man created god in his own image and likeness,” because man needs answers for what he does not know. She sometimes went with different people to different places of worship as a social gesture and as a sign of respect for their belief. She even converted to Catholicism when she married Burt, but neither were active in the church. She enjoyed taking her mother to St. Christopher’s on Christmas Eve. Her father died on her birthday, and she considered it a gift that she could celebrate his life as well as her own on the same day. Bob left Di and her family another gift when he expressed his wish to “stay home.” The family quickly educated themselves on the home funeral. When Bob passed at 2:00 a.m., family members gathered at the home place. Di, along with her mother and her sisters, washed the body, dressed him in his coveralls, and placed him in a pine coffin that Burt had built for him. He lay three days in the living room as family and friends visited. The experience was so healing and satisfying that Ma and most family members declared that it was what they would like when their time comes. And that is how it will be for Di! Family and friends may celebrate her life by visiting her at Grindelhof on Wednesday and Thursday (June 1 and 2) , and Friday (June 3) before 2:00 p.m. Burt has created a “Di Museum” filled with memorabilia. Donations may be made in her name to her, or your, favorite charity. Green Peace, the Sierra Club, the ACLU, ASH, Common Cause, Americans for Responsible Solutions, and the Brady Campaign, are among the charities and causes that Di supported.
