Virginia Lowry

Obituary of Virginia Chambers Lowry

Mrs. Virginia (Young) Chambers Lowry, 96, of Olympia, Washington, passed away quietly at home in late October, surrounded by love and support. She attended Garfield Elementary and Olympia High School. Born in Olympia to a local family with pioneer roots in Boston Harbor, she was active as a Girl Scout leader, and member of PEO, Children’s Orthopedic Guild and Daughters of the Pioneers, as well as several Bible study groups and Community of the Holy Spirit. An avid reader, she taught us about flowers, birds, constellations, and cribbage. She highly valued gardens and saw God’s handiwork in the perfection of hollyhock and rose. She loved friends, books and poetry. She loved Olympia and had wonderful stories to share from her deep roots there. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, joining in 1949 and teaching Sunday school for several years. She was a member of St. Martha’s and Altar Guild. She always had a ready smile and a courageous outlook in her last years. She had a positive impact on so many. She was plucky, wise and wonderful and will be missed always and remembered fondly by her extended family and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings and by two loving husbands, Don Chambers and Bill Lowry, also of Olympia. She is survived by children, Nina Chambers (Tucker Sparkman); William Lowry; Jeri Lowry, Joan Lowry Hartsough (Dennis); and grandchildren, Gerrit, Steve, Cindy, Traci, Anna, and Joe, and many nieces and nephews.
