I don’t want to intrude, but I thought on it and decided Phil would want me to post something anyway. I am so very sorry if I am intruding.
I didn’t know Phil for very long, or very well. But I think of her often. I was her housekeeper for a short time.
She had such a spark for life. She had no shame, or regret. She seemed to believe in sharing the thoughts that we all keep inside, so that we can all connect as fellow travelers, instead of being alone and sad. She had many opinions and thoughts… and stories! I would walk through the house with her as I dusted, and she would pause and share a story about this or that. Her favorite (because she told me every time I saw her) were the cards that her sons and relatives and friends and Arnold gave her. She really seemed to have been touched sincerely by each one. She would tell it to you straight, and expect the same in return. She loved martinis. I can’t imagine how wonderful it would have been to have her as a mom! We should all be so lucky.
I wish I had had more time to know Philomena. Just wanted to share my memory of her, for what it’s worth. She was such an adorable little lady, truly one of a kind. May she rest easy, and remind us all of the love and life we are capable of.

I will miss gardening with you and going to the Saturday farmer’s market. I will miss your Christmas cookies and fruit cakes. I will miss our Sunday dinners together. . .a special white cake made of strawberries and yogurt comes to mind. I miss your telling me that I watch creepy TV shows. I miss your infectious, child-like laugh and your razor-sharp Philly humor. Thank you for being my mother-in-law. I loved you like my second mother. Rest in peace.

Mom, you will always be a part of my soul. You and I were so close that the day you passed away I lost a large part of me, too. August 21 was, and will always be, the saddest part of my life. You are now with dad, forever with him like you always wanted since his death. You were the one person that I could always share my thoughts, dreams, and feelings without fear of mockery or reprisal. I remember the good times (and there were many) until a few years ago when life for you changed dramatically and for me as well. God bless you and I love you, my pretty little mommy.
