Mike and I became friends about 1965. We met through my high school friend Dennis Motschenbacher. Dennis, Mike and Ken Torrence were all morse code enthusiasts. I liked Mike from the start because of his easy going and friendly nature. His puns were always corny, but they got a chuckle out of me. Mike and I would cruise the Newport Blvd strip in his 1965 Chevy Camaro, which was a beautiful metalic green color. He loved that car. It was fun to hang out at his parents home on Clubhouse Drive in Newport Beach. We took a few trips together going out of town. Once to Tijuana where we enjoyed a few beers in taverns at our young age. We had a weekend trip to Fresno with Ken, but the best trip was to Lake Tahoe. Mike took pride in his cars, and he was a master at cooking the perfect over-easy egg. MIke was a kind and gentle soul. The only time we argued, was when we discussed politics, being opposites. I remember when Mike met Denise, the girl of his dreams. She worked at PhotoMat, which was a drive up film development business, a free-standing small building of about 100 square feet. She wore a uniform which was similar to an airline stewardess (now called a flight attendant). Mike would park there and talk to Denise for hours. He was easy to find, just drive down to PhotoMat. After I went into the Air Force in 1967, I didn’t see Mike and Denise much, as they married and moved to Palm Springs. We have always kept in touch though, and had a few great visits since then. I will miss my old friend, but we’ll meet again when that time comes.

I knew Mike as a neighbor and a friend. Mike was the kind of guy who wouldn’t let you struggle trying to fix your bicycle on your front lawn – he was right there with hands-on help. From our side yards we would talk
politics and solve the world’s problems. Mike had a thoughtful outlook, patience, witty humor, corny jokes and was keen on observing and understanding the world. He was a delightful and warm man. I will always miss him. June Ingerson

Uncle Mike was our favorite uncle. Genuine nice funny guy. As a shy kid, I loved his quiet gentleness. He treated me like an equal. Never had a chance to thank him for that. We’ll miss the puns and the surprising range & depth of interests he had.

To Mike’s family-I worked with Mike at Ma Bell and he was a wonderful person. He was one of the best at what ever he did. I wrote some lyrics to a song for a friend that has passed and I hope they provide you some comfort in these difficult days.
NEAR
You went away your high above and now you share our Savior’s love
Though you are gone aand we are here, we all can still feel your presence, near
To join our Lord, we all must fall, you were so young to hear his call
you’ve left behind loved ones so dear, but they can still feel your presence, near
Your life on Earth is in the past, your final day has come at last
We’ll miss the days your voice we’d hear and we can still feel your presence, near
When we have passed and life is through, we pray that God will take us too
And then we know that you’ll appear. because we still feel your presence, near
We’ll turn and then see you standing, near
