Karla and I go back many years. Our boys Steve, and Brian were best friends in kindergarten at Griffin in Olympia. We kept in touch after they moved to Montana, but lost track of each other after a while. She was a very special friend that I will never forget. I’m so glad we met again on Facebook, and will remain connected with Brian until he gets tired of me!! My sympathy goes out to the whole family.

I first met Karla @ H&H stables in Olympia. We did a lot of trail riding together along with our friend Lavona. I will always remember coming back from a ride on a cold winter day and making our “special” cup of tea to warm up with. Also one of my favorite memories is when we were at a horseshow looking for both Kara and my daughter and we found them on top of my horse trailer playing makeup and Janey had,a class to go into! I love you and will miss you Karla. I know you will be trail riding in Heaven.

All I can say is that Karla was an incredible woman who was looked up to by all. Her strength was of that of a super hero. I don’t know how she did it, but she managed to still show that beautiful smile after all she had been through. She was so kind, and loving, and accepting. I know she never got to know, but she was a huge part of my life and made a deep impression on what it is today. I have wanted to give up so many times, and it’s Angels like her that have picked me back up. Her last words to me were so sweet and I will cherish them forever, as I will with every memory we shared. She will truly be missed.

Karla and I were great friends in Jr. High and High School. I know her mom and dad. We had so many happy times together. I remember so much of her life. When she lost Kenny, her life changed of course. To all of her family and children in her life my heart felt caring. I have a poem Karla sent me when my mom died. She said it helped her after Kenny’s accident. I will post it on FB if anyone wants to see it. I must go now, I just got this news and I want to go and reflect on my dear one, Karla…Diane Merkl
