Obituary of Richard Dean Heckard

Richard lost his battle with cancer on November 3, 2014, while at his home in Olympia, Washington. He was born to William Julian and Maxine Edith Heckard on April 7, 1945, in Seattle, Washington. Richard graduated from Eatonville High School in 1964. He then continued his education at Clover Park from 1965 to 1966 and studied Airplane Mechanics. After his studies, Richard went to work for AFTON Air Service in Sitka, Alask, followed by working for the Washington State Department of Transportation in Tumwater and Tacoma. During this time, Richard found the love of his life, Maxine “Irene” Graham, whom he married at Wenatchee, Washington, in 1979. Richard spent his life in Washington, living in Seattle, Eatonville, Wenatchee and Olympia. Richard was a member of the Evergreen Sportsman Club, as well as the Olympia Elks Lodge #186, where he was Past Exalted Ruler and a Trustee. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, shooting, camping and hiking. He was also known for giving people a good – bad time. Richard is survived by his wife, Maxine “Irene” Heckard of Olympia, Washington; son, Don Reese (Sandy) of Vancouver, Washington; cousin, Cathleen Faltico (Larry) of Spokane, Washington; grandchildren, Randle Miller (Tamara) and Chris Reese, both of Vancouver, Washington; great grandchildren, Destiny Miller and Tyler Miller, both of Vancouver, Washington. He is predeceased by a great granddaughter, Emily Miller. The family recommends memorial donations be made in Richard’s honor through the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org/index.
