I have so many fond memories of her! I love her for loving my uncle and my grandparents unconditionally! We had such fun getting our daughters together. I loved her humor, and wit. Good bye my Auntie Isabel. I love you.

Isabel dancing with Jerry to the Traveling Wilburys, her broad smile telling her enjoyment and love of him. In bed with new-borne Madeline, closely holding and snuggling with her. Alert and attuned to everything while waiting to begin the first round of chemo, more than a decade ago. Listening closely to all that Isabel said, having learned she can be the quickest wit in the room, as well as the most caring. A few of the many wonderful memories we have of Isabel.
There is much, much more you and we will miss about Isabel, but she will always be close to our hearts.

We will always remember Isabel as kind and generous and sweet. She showed it in so many ways and so much of the time. From how she treated the kids in the Group Home you had many years ago, to how she made me feel at home with you, to how she welcomed Meiling when Meiling stayed with you during her Mock Legislature last Spring. We will all miss her, especialy Betsy, who felt she really made a connection with her. Jerry and Maddie: we all feel for you in your loss. One last note (no pun intended). I heard this song and immediately thought of Isabel. The chorus of which is:
“Angels stood at attention when she was called away, for she’d held the hand of Jesus everyday
Eternally she’s resting in a garden so fair, and when heaven looks upon her it sees the prettiest flower there”

I will miss Isabel. I can’t call her Aunt Isabel because she said it made her feel old (since Dorothy is the same age as I am). She was so very kind and gentle, yet strong. And also very witty, telling Jeff and I back in November how she wasn’t going anywhere, anytime soon, “because I haven’t planned my funeral colors yet”. I will never forget when Johnny was 2 1/2 and he had to spend 24 hours with Isabel (Jerry and Madeline too) because we were in the hospital with Marie’s broken arm. At that age, he didn’t remember meeting Isabel before but he felt so loved and comfortable with her, playing dinosaurs together, that he didn’t even ask about us once! A tribute to how wonderful she was and will always be. All my love, Noreen

Isabel, I did not know you well as I only saw you a few times since the year I became an Alonso wife/aunt/sister in law-but I do know your family loved you dearly and your passing leaves a big hole in their lives. A life cut short by circumstances no one could for see, but one that was full of giving, love, laughter and many many wonderful memories.
To all the Alonso/Harvey, Furey family and friends of Isabel I am very sorry for your loss. Sending you all deepest sympathy and healing prayers.
Love Chris

Dear Auntie Izzy,
I love you very much. The cheeky nephew that terrorized you when you babysat him, has grown-up to become a loving and caring man. I want you to know that my home and my heart will always be open to my cousin Madeline. Your husband Jerry has always made me feel accepted without judgement. He is a great guy. I had a dream last week that Granny was making me scrambled eggs and you were in it too. You had flowers in your hair. I always pictured you with flowers in your hair for some reason. I will think of you often and always dance a special Scottish jig for you to laugh at me when partying with the Harvey clan.
All my Love,
Your Nephew Jonathan

One of life’s greatest gifts has been to have Isabel for a sister. I remember the day our parents came home with her, a sweet little strawberry blonde doll. It was love at first sight. I treated her like my personal baby doll until Mom gently told me that babies need lots of sleep, and I could play with her when she woke up. As we grew, Isabel had a way of bringing beauty and magic to our world, much as she would continue to do as a wife and as a mother.
I could tell many stories about her, and wish we could have spent more of our adult years living closer to one another. Each meeting was wonderful and every conversation full of laughter over silly things. I could talk with her about anything. I will miss her voice, her smile, and everything about her. I am consoled by the knowledge that she left behind many warm and happy memories, a marriage to the love of her life, Jerry, who was strong and loving and carried her through her the hardest of times, and a beautiful daughter, Madeline, who embodies all the grace and charm of her mother.
Rest in peace, little sister. I will love you forever.

I am so happy I was able to get to know Isabel. She was always so wise and gently spoken. Her love for her family was unsurpassed. At a moments notice her quick wit would surprise you. I have many fond memories of our time together both before and after our children were born. I will miss her and cherish the time we had. Love to Jerry and Madeline and know that I will be there for you always.

The world is most certainly a more dreary place without Isabel’s wit, intellect and beauty to brighten it. I have been so blessed to have her as a friend. It has been awe-inspiring to witness the dignity and humor she possessed as she learned of her disease and prepared to die. She has influenced my thoughts and behavior in so many ways throughout the years of our friendship, but more so than ever in these last few months. I am a better person because of Isabel and will treasure her memory and her love for as long as I live.
