I have such warm memories of Eva, starting with the time when Dan Evans was Governor and she was a great help to Nancy Evans in hostessing at the Governor’s Mansion. Through the years I saw many examples of her gracious hospitality, in her own home and during various community events. Later, when Eva was spending most of her time at home, I often visited her and enjoyed many long conversations about her interesting life. Her descriptions of flying to California with “Allie” and his parents, in the early days of Palm Springs’ popularity as a winter resort, were fascinating. She treasured her family above everything else, and loved telling me what Fred, Howard and all the others were doing. Visitors were always treated to a selection of Eva’s favorite cookies! Eva will remain a shining example to me of how to become older with grace and great spirit, despite one’s physical infirmities.

I knew Eva through the Washington Center for the Performing Arts. I serviced her season ticket orders over the years. She was always so lovely. Eva will remain in my mind as the “quintessential gracious lady”. I was unable to attend her service, but I laid a pink rose on her grave yesterday. Blessings to all of her family.

I first met Eva 30 years ago when I delivered a piece of jewelry to her at the furniture store. She impressed me on that first day with her graciousness and classiness and I enjoyed seeing her throughout all the last 30 years, she never wavered from her style as she aged the most gracefully of anyone I have ever known. It was MY pleasure to be Eva’s acquaintance, to be the recipient of her smiles and her cheese crackers! I will always remember the lively discussions we had about all the Broadway Plays we shared a passion for! Eva was a true and lovely lady, my sympathies are with your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Eva was a bright light in our lives. I was fortunate to know Eva as my family lived in the same neighborhood. From my earliest memories as young boy, she always greeted me, “Hi, Dickie!” and continued her conversation with a bright smile and kind words. Through my adult life and even though she could not see me, I would take her hand and greet her; She always would respond with her signature smile and with enthusiasm say, “Hi Dickie!” She is the last of a remarkable generation and will be dearly missed.

While the Eva I knew wasn’t her at her prime, her kind spirit still shown through the veil of her age. It was my privilege to work with Eva, Howard, and Eva’s caregivers. She is missed.

I would like to express my sympathies on the death of your mother. I wanted to write this message to Howard whn I saw the obituary in the paper as it reminded me of my mother. Howard, we were neighbors in the year 1966-67 in Lacey at Diamond Head Apts. I attended St. Martins and I lived with my mom there while my dad was in Vietnam. She was originally from Puerto Rico, love to cook and you came over for a few meals! I always remember how very nice and thoughtful you were to my mom (who passed away seven year). Seeing your mother’s obit brought back those memories and of you and your family’s store downtown. My mother thought very fondly of you. I stayed in Olympia and became a teacher for N Thurston school disitrict. How wonderful that you and your brother had your mother for such a long time. Warm thoughts to you and your families.

Eva was a delightful inspiration to every one who knew her. She would have been happy and awed with the wonderful service and later reception. We will always miss her too. All of love. Marv & Mary-Lynne
