It is now June of 2014.
I never had the chance to meet Mr. Garcia, but I came to know him (a little) this weekend, nine months after his passing.
I learned that he liked to make things, he liked to fix things, that he was good with tools and took good care of them. To many people, this might not mean much, but this strikes a note with me, and it is a sweet one. I am retired Air Force, an engineer, and I love my workshop. I feel at truly home there and can usually fix whatever is broken. I drove by Mr. Garcias’ home this weekend, It was the weekend of the estate sale.
Estate sales can be very emotional for family members, but sometimes there can be good that comes out of them as well. At this one, I was able to visit a mans’ workshop, and I was lucky enough to see a fraction of Carlos Garcia and get to know him (a little) though that.
His shop (a large garage), at first seemed very crowded with shelves and workbenches, but as I wondered through it, I began to see the pattern, the order to his shop. Tools were sorted and very well cared for. Carlos had filed all the owners manuals for the various tools and yard equipment, and I helped to put the various manuals with their correct tools. The shop was very well organized… once you settled in and looked at it as he might have. I have spent a great deal of my life at various workbenches, and I thought it was very comfortable.
I could see his abilities in keeping a homes plumbing and electrics running right. The fencing he had done over the years, his love of music as well as bowling. He had some skill as a locksmith as well. I was lucky enough to purchase a variety of… well, stuff. -Just various nuts & bolts and some tools that will be with me for years to come. I will remember (fondly) where they came from.
In total, I only spent a few hours in Mr. Garcia’s garage, months after his passing… and yet even that small look into his life has made a very good impression on me.
Good work Mr.Garcia, thank you for sharing.

Charlie was my big brother someone to always look up to. He exceeded the dreams of many of his siblings in his travels, commitment to service to his country and later his state. A wonderful father and grandfather who always was interested in what your children and grandchildren were doing especially in sports. He had a great smile and a soft laugh. He wanted him for more years, but are grateful for the years God let him be with us. We all looked to him to lead the family after the death of both of our parents. At our family reunion gatherings he could control the loud outbursts with just one soft spoken word. Rest in peace , dear brother. Yo te amo.

Carlos, you were my career mentor, a career father when I needed one the most at the age of 17, I know you recognized that after my own dad’s passing back then, you pulled me aside and put me to work, educated me, kept me on track. I’m now 45 years old, and now hold the position of the warehouse manager. I hope to keep you proud of this.
With that, my family and I are forever grateful to you. el lobo.
Paul
