All I have to say is, Thank you Paul, for being a good husband to my long, wonderful friend, Kathy. And I know that you were a wonderful person yourself. Your smile is infectious. Your good, will live long after you.

Paul was a joyful and compassionate man who gave of himself to others. He made a difference through his counseling, support and guidance. As a partner in Wind Up Here, I saw firsthand his commitment to staff, customers, partners and the well-being of the store. If there was a problem, even if personal, Paul could be counted on to "fix-it". To me, Paul was "Mr. Downtown" the face of the business community. If you could not find him in the store, it was because he was out and about checking in with other businesses or just connecting with downtown shoppers. In all aspects of his life, he set a standard for us to emulate. He will be missed.

I met Paul about a dozen years ago when he chaired ODA's safety committee, sharing news and insights over monthly breakfasts. He was a gracious chair and a generous man, and I quickly came to admire his warm-hearted spirit and open-minded approach to all. I hadn't known about his long career as a school counselor, but it doesn't surprise me that he spent most of his career helping young people. Warm condolences to my friend Kathy and all the family.

In the early 1990's Chris Gowdey asked me, Paul and Jean Pettit if we wanted to start a toy store in downtown Olympia. Paul already had his fingers into another potential venture but was drawn to the store and to Chris' vision, as were Jean and I. The crew Chris assembled was made up of very different people in many ways. Chris' uncanny vision about the store and who was needed to make it happen were right on. Wind Up Here would not have been the store it was without Paul. Paul was the person with the vision and skills to build an upstairs office and design the back rooms to efficiently handle all the freight and business end of the store. He also designed the phenomenally successful seasonal kiosk, Wind Up Here Too, which we operated for many years at Capital Mall. And then he worked tirelessly to do the construction of the projects he envisioned. Yet, Paul's unique fingerprint on the place Wind Up Here grew to have in the community was even more in his role as an ambassador. He was always out and about in downtown Olympia, making friends, talking up the store and bringing back information about what was happening beyond our walls. Through Paul and Chris, Wind Up Here played an important role in Olympia, decisions about downtown, and impact on our neighbor businesses. Paul's enviable networking skills was a major reason for the affection Wind Up Here had in the hearts of many people.

See his face in the photo made me smile with the flood of memories with " Mr. Seabert". While attending AHS in the early 80's I experienced some of the most tragic and difficult times of my life. I took a chance at talking with a school counselor and had the most amazing, uplifting and empowering sessions of my life with Mr. Seabert. I still tell people that he was a great influence to me, as well as setting such a great example of what be an accepting human being is. Talking with him made me feel valued as a teenager and that reaching out for help was a normal process. He gave advice, suggested many options and most of all offered compassion. I hold you all in my prayers and thoughts. We have all been blessed knowing this great man.
Warmest regards,
Wanda (McCluskey) Wall

The best human! I find myself saying Paul can figure this out or Paul can do that or Paul will know the right thing to say. I’ll miss him but he made me a better person and I’ll carry that with me every day.
Sending love to Kathy and family.

Kathy and family, I am shocked and so sad to read of Paul's passing. All my years of working with Paul at Timberline were such a joy, he was one of my favorite people in the world. After retirement it was always fun to run into Paul and get a chance to visit and catch up on things. A few months ago I ran into Paul at Costco where we visited and laughed at some old stories. I will remember that visit and carry it with me. Paul was a special person and all who knew him loved him. May he rest in peace and know there was a special place waiting for him. I will miss him more than words can express.

Jeff & I moved to Olympia in 2000 and were fortunate to meet Kathy & Paul not long afterward. The dynamic, warm-hearted couple became some of our favorite people. As a volunteer with the then-called Olympia Downtown Association, I saw them at nearly every public event and fundraiser and was one of the many people who thought of Paul as Mr. Downtown. We will all miss Paul's friendly, welcoming smile, but we are all better for having known him. Kim and Jeff Young
