Susan was an important influence in my life. Someone who easily welcomed, shared her skills, opened her home to holiday orphans, was trustworthy and without judgment. Her warmth and kind spirits were there for everyone with whom she came in contact. She was classy and she was beautiful. Matched with a gutsy personality triple her petite size. I miss her and will never forget her.

I was so sad to hear of Susan’s passing. She was so strong, I thought she had more time.
Susan was rock solid. Her sunny disposition and her signature giggle were signs of her enjoyment of life. Life was her playground; so many ways to enjoy it! And she did.
She was a leader I appreciate all the trips she organized that we shared. From the epic on Ingall’s peak, to Mt Goodman, Mt Buckner, Earl and Bean Pk, numerous wonderful trips to Vantage, Leavenworth, Smith Rocks, and so on. It was always a joy to be with Susan and friends enjoying the great outdoors and testing our resolve against the elements :-).
She drew people together. Her Christmas parties were something I looked forward to every year. They brought the climbing community together all crammed into her small kitchen, with food, drink, and plenty of stories to share.
I will miss Susan and all the adventures. But she’s still here in spirit, and I know that she is giggling and finding ways to enjoy her new surroundings.
Love to Susan and her family. ❤️

Susan was a truly intelligent, accomplished, and courageous person in the course of her life. Professionally, she was highly regarded in her lengthy HR career and carried it out with fairness and empathy to everyone she dealt with. She loved the outdoors, especially the mountains. Though slight of stature, she achieved climbing and trekking adventures around the world. As a climber, she was precise, skilled, determined, and enthusiastic. Having the distinct privilege of being close friends for many years, I can only describe Susan as a unique and beloved pixie of a person, possessing a fine and endearing spark for life and adventure, while in her quiet inner life deeply loving and caring for her family and friends. While missing her physical presence much, I believe that her spirit is out there among the peaks, meadows, and streams, knowing that she is always in the hearts of all that loved her.

My memories of my dear friend Susan. We shared so many fun times and adventures. I know that you’re probably somewhere now With her climbing gear on and tackling high clouds. Rest In Peace, dear friend. And wait
for me, we’ll climb together again in the next life.

Although I only knew Susan indirectly (through her husband and daughter), I admired her self reliance, self assuredness, and her mountain climbing experiences. I am sure she would have made a positive contribution to other women, with whom she worked. I am also sure daughter, Teri, will miss her. My wishes for good luck and happiness are with her and her family. I have made a donation in her memory to the Wildlife Foundation. From: Daisy Arredondo Rucinski, Ph.D., Indianola, WA 98342
