The words that come to my mind when I think about my Grandpa Howard are: Hard working, Good Work Ethic, Strength, Stubborn, Knowledgeable, Dedicated, Feisty and a Fighter.
My Grandpa Howard was a man who I remember being a someone who worked hard and always stood up for what he believed in. He was the only Grandpa I ever really had. Early on in my childhood, I spent a lot of time with him and my grandmother; he was like a father-figure to me, and never felt like we had a Grandpa-Grandchild relationship. I felt like he was a dad to me. He would correct and reprimand me when he needed to (but let’s be honest, that barely ever happened because I was always such a good kid), but he always made sure to always give me his love and attention when I needed it most. Many people would probably describe my Grandpa Howard as being tough on the outside and rough around the edges, but for me, I was able to experience firsthand his kindness, gentleness, friendliness, goofiness, and genuineness.
Some of my favorites memories of me spending time with my Grandpa Howard were sitting on his lap after dinner while watching Jeopardy (his favorite show), washing and cleaning his cars with him, climbing into my Grandparents’ bed while wedging myself between him and my Grandma Arlene to watch tv before going to bed each night (sometimes he would even tell my Grandma Arlene not to move me, to just let me sleep between them) and letting me use his desk and all his office supplies to play make believe office.
My Grandpa Howard will forever be remembered by me for the true love he had for my Grandma Arlene, the hard-working nature he had to provide for his family and the love and care he showed me throughout my childhood.
Love Mindy
