I just heard this and am compelled to put in my 2¢
I was a patient of Dr Haws from 2000 (Providence) to his retirement. I can only say that in my view he was a top notch professional AND, I dare say, a friend. Towards the end of our time together we only met a few times each year with the talk always coming to the Mariners & baseball at some point.
I was sorry when the retirement was announced and saddened to hear of his passing.... yet I am smiling as I write this because of the human being he was, with a frequent twinkle in his eye! God Bless, Doc.

Im sorry for the loss. To his family and friends, patients and colleagues, Jay was a special kind of person. I was a patient of his till the end. Before he passed he called me, to tell me, that I was one of the reasons he stayed practicing for as long as he did. Not because he thought he could make me a better person but because he really enjoyed meeting with me and hearing all the great stories i would tell him about me and my families lives and particularily the stories of my wife meeting her bio dad at 35 years old how wonderful everybody in the situation was. He was a great man i will miss him . My condolences

Dear Deb, we are very sorry to read of Jay’s passing. We haven’t spoken or met in decades but I often think of Jay and you. He was a big influence on me and despite not always agreeing with him I have remained a big fan of his. I do hope I can see you when you come to Boulder. I am very appreciative that you are having a memorial celebration in Boulder. --Joe Kurtz

When I went through a divorce in 1975, I was a client of Jay's. One day I noticed that he had done his residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, where I had been born in 1949. I turned to Jay and said, "Your father brought me into this world." Dr. Haws had been my mom's doc for many years. I was sorry to hear of Jay's death. (Of course, I called him Dr. Haws, not Jay.) May his family be comforted by happy memories and knowing that he touched the lives of many who needed guidance through difficult times. Eileen Borleis Smith
