Scott was my Uncle, Mentor and Friend.
I have such great memories of Scott and the times I was able to spend with him will always rest in my heart and mind.
He was incredibly quick witted and had such a dry sense of humor, that he could of claimed to be from England. I can tell story after story where Scott made some comment that sent me into stitches with laughter. None of them can be told in a letter but I recall each moment………long ago when we were all in San Francisco with my dad walking thru Fisherman’s Wharf………at the San Diego zoo watching a group of Sunbears………..at a UT game back when the Vols were actually “Good”, and we got a good rain soaking at the game………………the list goes on and on. Both his humor and love for his family defined Scott and his life so well.
I was lucky to have had an Uncle that left me with so many fond memories and was such as a great mentor to me along with my own Dad. My father and Scott were actually great friends even though there connection was thru marrying two sisters.
I know that many years after my mom and dad divorced and my dad was living in San Diego still, he would ask me about Scott and how he was doing. And when I had the opportunity to chat with Scott, he would ask about my dad. The two of them shared a great bond.
I remember how great it was when I got to see Scott last when we came to Nikki’s wedding in St. Augustine. He was still going strong and doing well even though he had lost his soul mate, Helen, years before.
Despite enjoying a few cigars and some scotch, he lived a long and fulfilling life and he certainly had the kind of full life that any of us would be happy to have when it all said and done for each of us. I guess I need to switch out my bourbon for scotch....
I can see him now back with Helen, along with my mom and dad basking in the light of the lord.
Love…………..Kelly and Maria
