Obituary of Marilyn Jean Coble

Marilyn Jean (Ness) Coble, 90, of Olympia, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2019, with her family by her side.

She was the second of two children born to Sigurd and Mary Ness on September 21, 1928 in Monrovia, California.  In 1932, in the midst of the Great Depression, the family moved to a remote 10-acre farm near Port Orchard, where Marilyn and her brother grew up.  She graduated from South Kitsap High School In 1946.

Marilyn married Howard Coble on June 13, 1948, and the young couple soon settled in Edmonds, where they raised three children (Bob 1951, Janet 1954, and Lisa 1960).  They moved to Snohomish in 1969, and finally to Olympia in 1973. Marilyn was primarily a home-maker, mother, and wife during these times, but during their early years in Olympia she worked as a legislative secretary and a volunteer at the state capitol.

She is survived by her older brother Charles (Bob) Ness, who lives on the family farm near Port Orchard, as well as her three children; Robert Coble (Olympia, WA), Janet Denhardt (Sacramento, CA), and Lisa Curtis (Suquamish, WA), seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marilyn had a full and active life. She and Howard enjoyed cruising their boat throughout Puget Sound and many long weekends at the family cabin on Hood Canal.  Only days before she fell ill with acute leukemia, she was walking two miles a day and knitting a stockpile of beautiful things for more great-grandchildren to come. She played bridge on a regular basis and just last month was encouraging her book group to collectively write a novel. Her talent with the sewing machine was amazing!  Her family and friends are all grateful to have had her in their lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 29, 2019, 2:00-4:30 p.m. at the Olympia Country Club, 3636 Country Club Rd. NW, Olympia, WA 98502.
