Obituary of Daniel G. Kirschner

Daniel G. Kirschner passed away April 30, 2019 in Olympia, Washington, his home of 38 years.  He was born June 26, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York to Morris and Betty (Kenner) Kirschner.

 

Dan graduated from Richmond Hill High School, Richmond Hill, New York (1942), and earned a BS in Social Sciences from American University in Washington, D.C. (1954).  He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve February 2, 1942, and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Cowpens as an Aviation Radioman/Gunner.  He was discharged December 17, 1945.  He rejoined the Reserve in 1947 but did not see active duty, and was discharged in 1951.

 

Dan married Mary E. Keys on October 21, 1951.  They resided in Los Angeles County, California from 1951 through 1981, where Dan was a Deputy Probation Officer for LA County for 25 years.  They moved to Olympia in 1981 and enjoyed 54 wonderful years together until her death on June 21, 2005.

 

Dan enjoyed arts and crafts.  He also spent many, many hours volunteering at elementary schools, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, Providence St. Peter Hospital, and Westwood Baptist Church, of which he was a member.  He also was a member of College Street Christian Church. 

 

Dan is survived by his son, Kevin Atwood Kirschner of Corona, California; daughter, Keady Annette Perkins of Rancho Santa Margarita, California; six grandchildren; a great granddaughter; three great grandsons; and sister, Bonnie Sarrow of Mendocino, California.  He was predeceased by his parents; wife; daughter, Katherine Ann Hall (2002); brothers, Edwin Kirschner (2000) and Stanley Kirschner (1995); and sister, Dorothy Seide.

 

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 25, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at Saddleback Church in Norco, California.
