Obituary of James Joseph Silva

James Joseph Silva, 68, passed away with family by his side in Olympia, Washington, on September 26, 2017. Born in Olympia, James was the son of the late Frank and Frances Silva. After graduating from Olympia High School in 1967, he attended Western Washington and St. Martin’s Universities. Jim later became one of Olympia’s favorite bartenders. He married Janice Carter Binion in 1971. They had two daughters together before parting ways. Jim had a great love of sports, having played basketball and softball as a young man. His senior year at OHS, he was so proud to have received the Inspirational Award for basketball. Jim was small, but boy could he jump! Jim was full of personality, and had a great sense of humor and quick wit. He was quite the entertainer and shared his gift while tending bar. One of his great joys was making Silva’s Soft Tacos at Lakefair. Jim is survived by his daughters, Traci Johnson (Andrew) and Melissa Dukes (Forest); stepson, Travis Binion (Angie); their mother, Jan Silva; grandchildren; siblings, Mary Helen Bowers (Steve), Tony Silva, Margaret Silva-Perry (Ralph), Tom Silva, Jeri McAferty; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frances Silva; siblings, Richard Silva, Frank Silva and Jane Elmer; and stepson, Mike Binion.
