Hello Marga, Liz and Patti,
My how time flies. I very much remember working for Ed for more than a decade. So many memories…where do I start. Perhaps my fondest memory would have been the company parties hosted by your mom and dad. Those were great times. Your dad took me for a ride in a jet boat across the lake-my eyes watering from the wind. Over the years I have run into former customers-all of them had kind words to say. I love your choice of pictures to represent how he lived-a Bayliner hat and a fishing pole. May your memories of him last you a lifetime. He was a great man.

I will always remember Mr. Bettine as one of my dear Mentors. I enjoyed his friendship and company as he was both a teacher at NTHS, and a neighbor across the lake… In shop class we took a full year to make a small coffee table, by doing it the hard way. Only hand tools were allowed, and every joint in the top had to be approved, for gluing, by Mr. Bettine by his assessment of the quality of our work. He would hold the boards up to the light…any light coming through, meant going back to using the long plane… Fifty years later, I still have that table, in perfect condition. No joints have failed, and neither have the messages and mentoring he gave. My heart goes out to Mr. Bettine and family. Out of respect I always called him Mr. Bettine, and always will. Rest in Peace, dear man.

I went to North Thurston High School and had Mr Bettine for three years of woodshop and two years of boat building. He was one of the main reasons that I stayed in school. He seemed to care for all his students and was more than just a teacher. He listened to you even outside of class. It would take a big man to fill his shoes. Henry Moody

I was sad to read of Ed’s passing. Ed was my woodshop teacher at NTHS and gun club teacher back when we used to take our guns on the school bus for Thursday gun club after school. I bought a boat from him at his dealership not long after he opened and can always remember his warm greeting, smile and “Hello Jonesie” every time I would run into him. He left a mark on me that I will always remember with fondness and respect.

My name is Dale Rankin. Mr. Bettine was my wood shop teacher at North Thurston HS in 1965, 1966 and 1967 when I graduated. I used to live in Lake Forest where almost every day Ed would walk his dog, I think his name was Jack, and we would chat. I loved this man and may he rest in peace. My condolences go out to his family.

We met Ed when he married sis in the grange hall in Allen WA. I could write a book on the memories of our experiences. One of a kind guy. Will truly miss him.
